For a while Sadler has been asking to decorate his room. Come see how this vintage hunting bedroom for my teen boy turned out! He is a happy camper and so is mom, so WIN! Here’s how we started out…
My boys love all things outdoor, hunting, fishing, and nature in general, so of course, he wanted that kind of “theme” for his room. Here’s the deal – I always want my family to feel happy in their space, to feel free to be who they are and that goes with decorating as well. If you have a man that loves to hunt or a kid that’s into pink unicorns, I say embrace it. You can always find a happy medium between your style and their wants. That’s what this room is all about.
If you’ve been around the blog a minute, you know I too love the outdoors and spend time camping and hunting at our deer lease, so I’m not opposed to a good old hunting themed room, but I need to infuse some of my style in the space to make the house feel cohesive as well as to reign in a 12 year old that would have a bunch of weird stuff on his walls if left to run completely free. Sadler and I talked about what he wanted and didn’t want in his room and I developed a plan around his wishes then ran with it.
Here’s a great tip – if you want to create a new space or redecorate, visit Pinterest. Create a board JUST FOR THAT ROOM and pin alllll the things that you are drawn to, the pictures that evoke the feel you’re going for. Pin at least 20 pins. Next go open the board on Pinterest and you will have a beautiful overarching view of your new space. Then you can pick apart the photos you’ve pinned and pull out the elements that speak to you.
I got a fabulous bed at an Estate sale for Sadlers’s room, for $60!!! If you want to evoke a lived-in, vintage feel shop second hand, mix furniture versus matching and have at least one piece of warm wood furniture in a space.
The new to us dresser came from a garage sale (for thirty bucks!) and with a light sanding and two-tone stain it really made an impact on the atmosphere of the room.
I got this great $10 bookshelf at a garage sale as well and it will be getting a little upgrade soon, so stay tuned for that. I have a fun idea that I stole from my trip to the Biltmore!
For me, I knew a gallery wall full of all the things Sadler loves was a must. He wanted to incorporate his deer mounts and this was a great way to soften the spot. For a personal touch, I printed a bunch of hunting pictures of Sadler. I decided to print them in black and white, it’s a good move to make things flow smoothly and feels a little old school.
I mixed in fun vintage finds I’ve collected over time.
We hung precious curtain panels I scored from Wal-Mart over Bamboo shades. Natural shades are a personal favorite of mine, they add such depth and texture to a space.
I still need to find a nightstand for his bedside, but a room that evolves is a good one. So – I will wait until the right piece jumps up and grabs me!
I love how much this vintage hunting bedroom room feels like my sweet Sadler and embodies all the things he loves and is into right now. I hope he feels my love through hung pictures and planned patterns! I adore him. Here’s to creating a space in your home full of love, joy, and personality friend! Go make your people feel loved.

Hey girl. I love Sadler’s new bedroom. I know he will be very happy with it. I have one question … where did you get that coverlet/quilt on his bed. I love that plaid and you don’t see green in plaids very often.
Thanks for your time. I love your blog and look forward to each new post.

thank you sweet friend!!! I got that coverlet at Pottery Barn Teen, I am not sure if they still have it but I have a similar one in my other son’s room. They have a lot of great stuff that is NOT just for teens! Check it out!
