I NEEDED this easy DIY ribbon storage rack in my craft room. Maybe you do too? I wouldn’t say I’m a ribbon hoarder, I don’t even use ribbon all that much in my decorating, but I really do LOVE to buy pretty ribbon! The problem is it started to take over small storage boxes and buckets and high dollar real estate in my craft room. You know what I mean.
I didn’t have any wall space for a ribbon rack on the wall, plus I wanted something a little more mobile and versatile so I made my own ribbon holder to fit my space. You can do the same! Make this as big or small, short or tall as you need, but anyway you make it this ribbon rack will help you get your pretty ribbons all in a row in your craft room!
I’ve used the same concept in other DIY projects around my house and if you look here you can see how it is great on a larger scale and here is how you can use it on a smaller scale, here is how you can use it on a wall if needed! Here is what you’ll need to get organized.
Ribbon Rack Supplies
Start with a heavy base board that has enough support so it won’t tip when you add your ribbons to it!
Dowel Rods – I used 5/16″ but would recommend a little thicker after I built mine
Paddle Bit – you need the same size as the dowel rod you use, I would get a set for future projects so you have the sizes you need!
Wood Glue
Paint or Stain – optional
You can watch the video for extra tips, it really is such a fast project to make. Start by measuring where you want to place the dowel rods, making sure there is enough distance between to accommodate your ribbon spools. You could make different ribbon racks for different size spools if needed. Mark each spot.
Drill your holes with the appropriate paddle bit, going through the wood.
Cut the dowel rods to the desired length. Add a touch of wood glue to the end of each dowel as you place it in the drilled hole, flush with the bottom of the base. Allow to dry completely then paint, stain or leave raw.
Stack your ribbons for beautiful storage that you can move around as needed! I hope you like this simple ribbon storage idea for your craft room! Be a dear and share this idea before you head of to make your own. Thanks friend!

Thank you for this great tip! My ribbon is stored in plastic boxes and that takes up too much room. Your idea is way better, and I’m going to try it!
