Artistic Advent: Week 2, Clock Face Ornament

This week has been full of beautiful readings from our Advent Book The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp. It’s not to late to join in if you haven’t already! Here is week one, three, four and five (remember the reading schedule “dates” do not necessarily correspond to the calendar dates)This advent ornament helps remind us that God's timing is perfect. In this post you will find two videos. The first is me simply going over my thoughts from day 6-10 and the second is a few extra details about this week’s project. This advent ornament helps remind us that God's timing is perfect. The scriptures and readings this week all carried a theme of time for me. I put together a clock face ornament to commemorate the truths we learned about this week! You’ll have to watch the video for the different ways I saw time through the scriptures. I am hopeful you will let me know what you saw!

Here is a supply list:

Black Acrylic craft paint

Trace paper

small tip brush

Start by spray painting your jar lids. I used two different sizes, regular mouth and wide mouth. Spray both sides, be sure to let dry completely before flipping. It will take more than one coat to cover the writing. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

For the Roman Numeral Clock:

Print the clock face numbers and cut out the circle. Lay trace paper gently on jar lid and trace numbers. Using your small tipped brush and black acrylic paint the Roman numerals. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

Once dry the optional step is to finish the ornament with dark wax. It gives the clock face an aged look that I love. You can see the subtle difference in the picture below. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

For the Black faced numbered clock:

After painting both sides of your lid place scrapbook numbers stickers in the 3, 6, 9 and 12 place. Make sure they are on good. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

Dab black paint over the whole face with a sponge brush. It will take two coats. Dry completely. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

Peel off stickers. This will likely scratch your paint slightly. Make a puddle of spray paint and use it to touch up the numbers. artistic advent ann voskamp clock face ornament huntandhost.net

For ALL ornaments:

Place your ornaments on a scrap wooden surface and hammer the fat nail through the top for your string hole. Thread jute or ribbon in the top and finish of with a matching or accent color bow. This advent ornament helps remind us that God's timing is perfect. On the reverse side write out the scriptures that spoke to you using a sharpie. You can date them on the back too! This advent ornament helps remind us that God's timing is perfect. Join us for An Artistic Advent through Ann Voskamp's Advent book. www.huntandhost.net

Please let me know what you think about the reading and this week’s project…

Did the aspect of time stick out to you? what did? What was your favorite point that Ann made? Has anyone made the project from last week?

Don’t forget to share this series and the projects, please!

My favorite quote in the book this week was: If God can transfigure the greatest evil into the greatest gift, then He intends to turn whatever you’re experiencing now into a gift. YOU CANNOT BE UNDONE. I love your perspective on time. I have a son with Autism and have of course, prayed many times for a complete healing but I have seen over TIME how my son, CHRISTopher has touched people so deeply and changed people. It is quite amazing. He even taught me what life is truly about. It’s to LOVE. I have recently been studying another book that relates to the Bible and I’ve learned that it really is very simple, not complicated as we make it to be. There are TWO things in life one is LOVE and the other is FEAR. No matter what we do or say, if we do it out of love it is right with the Lord. If we do or say things out of fear it is against God and his promises. Anger, worry, coveting, hating, cursing, etc. all of these are out of fear. Now that I understand, I’m trying very hard to apply it to my life. Everything I think, act upon, do and even judge, I ask myself is this love or fear. Am I thinking this way out of love or fear. I’m not perfect by no means but this is helping me a lot. Trying to make since of the evil and worldly ways is hard but this has helped me some, on a level I can relate with. I’m so grateful to be reading “The Greatest Gift” with you and learning from you, with you, what God puts on your heart, and your perspective. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, it truly is a blessing for me and all who participate.

Krystal – I have so enjoyed reading your thoughts. I was touched by many of the same aspects as you. I think your point on love and fear is perfect. What a great litmus test to all our actions. I think constant prayer is another layer. I lean toward the fear side when I am not constantly on my knees. And I am not constantly on my knees as I should be!!! Thank you for your kind words. This book is beautiful and I feel so blessed to share it with all of you. Keep me posted on your thoughts this week! I loved so many of the truths in this week’s readings!!
