How to Turn Toilet Paper Rolls into Snowflakes and Icicles

It’s SO easy to turn toilet paper rolls into snowflakes and icicles to create your very own winter wonderland… on a budget! Nothing screams cozy season quite like snow and ice, but here it Texas it’s not very likely we’ll get a white Christmas. So, I just have to make my own!!

And you can too… let me show you how.

what you need

toilet paper/paper towel rolls
scissors and/or guillotine cutter
white glitter
hot glue
pencil
mod podge
hole punch
jute/string/fishing line/ribbon

making snowflakes

Cut your toilet paper roll into small strips. I made mine about 1/2 inch wide or so, but it’s 100% up to you!
After they are cut out, hot glue them together forming a star shape. The original star took 5 strips for me.
Glue on more strips in between each piece, just like before! The more you add, the bigger the snowflake!
Fold toilet paper strips in half and then hot glue on the outside of the fold to attach in between each “petal.” You can refer to the picture below to see what I mean!
Cut the remaining strips in half on one side, making them one long piece instead of a circle. Roll them up into little pinwheels and use hot glue to secure them along the way. I made 5 of these.
Use hot glue to attach these towards the center of the snowflake.
Lastly, either dip or brush the snowflake with mod podge and then sprinkle on some white glitter- or whatever color you’d like!

making icicles

Cut the toilet paper roll longways on the creases that should already be there (if not, cut in a spiral formation). This should make it one flat piece (that looks like a diamond shape).
Cut the flat piece in half and then each of those pieces in half again. You should have 4 little strips.
Hot glue 2 strips together, making them longer.
Wrap those strips around a pencil to bend them to shape.
Dip or use a brush to apply mod podge and then add white glitter.
Use a hole punch and fishing line/jute/string/ribbon to hang!
