Make an adorable DIY Sunflower Art using Dollar Tree supplies with this super easy tutorial with video.
It’s a perfect summertime craft and would look so pretty on your mantel, or on an entryway table to greet guests.
Today’s DIY sunflower art is going to take fabric and buttons to make the most adorable sunflower. The best part is, it’s a quick and easy craft that’s budget-friendly too!
I love to decorate with sunflowers. They are just so bright and cheery. Did you see my DIY Paper Sunflowers Mantel from last season? That is still a favorite mantel display of mine.
So, gather your supplies and let’s get crafting.
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR DIY SUNFLOWER ART
HOW TO MAKE DIY SUNFLOWER ART
Start by using your craft knife to cut the canvas from the frame. This is called a “reverse canvas technique” and you can use it on any size frame.
It’s a great way to keep costs down, especially with larger size frames that can be very pricey.
Now it’s time to cut the petals of the sunflower. Take your fabric scraps and cut out rounded petal shapes. You don’t have to use just yellow fabric.
The main thing is the shape of the petals. It may help to freehand a template and use that as a guide.
Once you have all the petals cut, it’s time to stain the frame. You can use any color stain you like, or even paint the frame. Make it your own and have fun with it!
Let the frame dry. It doesn’t take long. Next, cover the canvas and cardboard that came with the piece with your chosen fabric. I just love this blue ticking stripe.
It has a farmhouse feel to it. You can hot glue the fabric, or use a staple gun. Place the canvas back in the frame.
Now for the fun part…
Once the canvas is covered and the frame is ready, it’s time to get creative with your pretty sunflower. Use a hot glue gun, or fabric glue to arrange the fabric petals in the frame.
Once you are happy with the arrangement, hot glue the buttons to the center of the flower.
Use a brown sharpie to make a simple flower stem and you are done! See how easy that was? This is something teens would like to make too, especially if they like arts and crafts.
HOW TO DECORATE WITH DIY SUNFLOWER ART
There are so many fun ways to decorate with your DIY sunflower art. I love how it look displayed on a table with a basket and plant. How about adding it to your summer mantel display?
It could even be hung on the wall and would look just adorable in a guest bathroom. However you choose to display it, I hope you enjoy your pretty new sunflower.
