If you like to decorate your patio you may have wondered how to hang pictures on brick wall? Well there are a few ways, but I am sharing how I hang pictures on my brick! I have a crewelwork piece my mom made years and years ago that I love to hang on my patio. It was time to add it to our outdoor living space since I’m working on fixing up our backyard.
For me, I’m not scared to add holes to the walls or drill into brick or sheetrock. It’s kind of like being a half glass full kind of person. You can either look at all the holes you may have to repair someday or look at the beauty you have in front of you. I choose glass half full, enjoy the pictures and ignore the holes! Holes are easily fixed, so don’t sweat the small stuff! (I do have a no drill suggest down below though 😉 )
You will need a few special supplies and I will link them in a supply list below so you can get exactly what you need if you want, I hope that helps. I don’t change out hanging items on my patio brick often, so I try to make one hanging spot that will be easy to change out should I want to switch pictures, wreaths or wall art. I say that so you will consider what you hang and the height you hang it before you start drilling into your brick. Holes are ok, but minimizing them is too. 😉
Once you decide where you want to hang a pictures on your brick wall pre-drill a hole using a special concrete/masonry drill bit. If you don’t have the correct drill bit this job will be difficult to impossible. With the right one, it’s simple. Make sure that your drill bit and selected screws are the same size so the hole you drill will accept the screws!!! You want to drill straight into the brick and apply a little bit of pressure on your drill. Most of the time when using a drill you want to let the drill do the work, so don’t feel like you have to force it. You may want to back the drill bit out of the hole a few time to remove some of the masonry dust as you go. Make the hole deep enough to accept the concrete anchor you use or deep enough the concrete screw you use is in the wall far enough to support the weight of what you are hanging.
You will need a special masonry/concrete screw and most come with anchor sleeves. If using a plastic anchor gently insert it onto your drilled hole and lightly tap it with a hammer until flush with the brick wall. Next screw in the masonry screw and leave it sticking out enough to hang your picture on. That’s it, super simple with the right tools and hanging pictures on your brick really elevates a patio space to feel like a genuine room in your home! Here is a supply list to help you get ready to hang on brick like a pro!

Hammer
If you are really against drilling into your brick you can try these brick hangers. I have used them successfully in the past, but it depends on the weight of what you are hanging and the way the brick on your wall is put together. You have to have enough of a lip between the brock and mortar for these brick hangers to work. They are worth trying though!
You can see how I hung a quilt and other things on the patio of our old home here if you’d like another idea on how to easily hang things on brick. Save this post for later!

I love brick clips. Big game changer. I used two of them to hang a big half windmill above the fireplace. Been there almost three years!
