Hunt & Host Home Tour: Girl’s Bedroom

Ah the tween years. That in between stage of still playing with dolls, but over the Disney princesses. She is starting to be nose down into her ipod and having a blast with our instagram summer fun project. It is an exciting age. Decorating for this transition age was exciting too.

I really wanted her room to be her comfy space, her personality and her haven. I think it turned out very “Mae”. In spite of her wanting green walls we decided on a neutral Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey as a backdrop to layer color over. We wanted an artful garden feel to her room. My mom made the sweet curtains. I love how simple they are, understated and just the right finishing touch.

Brown is one of my favorite decorating colors, but it just wasn’t right for this sweet girl’s room…

girl bedroom before and afterWe only used artwork that Mae painted herself…all of which happened to be flowers and wildlife. The pops of color make her room so cheerful and bright.

The bright green laminate we resurfaced her desk with is a fun focal point that let’s you know we are not all business here.

You can read about Mae’s crib mattress memory board here.

Ikea is a great place to shop for affordable touches. This whimsical light came from there for a mere $40. It is so loud and playful.

Mae’s bookshelf was mine as a kid and has seen more coats of paint than I can count. It is a holding spot for all her books and “stuff”.

I hope you enjoyed my sweet daughter’s room. It is a great reflection of her personality. You can check out one of her brother’s room here or the rest of the house here!

    Good Morning Kim,
Mae’s bedroom is every young girl’s fantasy – what young lady would not love the colors in this room and that great light fixture! I am sure she loves spending time here.

Interested in learning about the desk – looks like it’s made from 2 dressers. And is there a tutorial on how to cover the desk top with laminate? Thanks!

I like the way you think! This desk is actually a built in that was in the house, we just had it resurfaced. BUT…I think the two dresser idea is AMAZING! That could really work out nice. I have no idea how to install laminate, but I know there are now a wide variety of incredible color and texture options available. So glad you stopped by!

Okay, I wasn’t going to comment until the end of the tour but Mae’s artwork is DA BOMB! Seriously, she needs to keep on with this hobby and maybe do an Etsy shop in her future?! I love her name, too. I will share my thoughts after the tour is finished….????
