You’re in for a quick and easy project today!
Cheesecloth ghosts are nothing new. I didn’t make them up.
BUT… my oh so crafty mom, aka Deedles, put a twist on this craft that makes it a cinch.
She is always thinking up something fun to do with the kids and this is one of their latest products.
Start with the following supplies (affiliate links for your convenience):
Stiffen Stuff Fabric Stiffener
Balloons
Plastic cups
Optional: markers and felt
Start by blowing up a balloon and sitting it in a cup. This will determine the size of your ghost. Big balloon, big ghost. Stack the cups on something tall for a longer, trailing ghost.
Lay cheesecloth over the balloon set up. I like it when it is swooshed to the back in a crumbly bunch like the ghost is actually moving and trailing it’s sheet behind it.
Here is Deedle’s genius addition to a not so new project. Spray all over with Stiffen Stuff spray. You may want to do this outside or at least on a covered surface. Most similar projects require messy paste or corn starch concoctions that have to dry over night. Not here…you get almost instant, less mess fun!
Let the ghost sit and dry for an hour or so then remove the balloon and cup.
At this point if you want to lightly draw eyes and a mouth with a Sharpie or cut them out of felt and apply with fabric glue feel free!
You have a precious floating ghost to use as a centerpiece, tabletop friend or mantel décor.
The kids love this project, it is quick and easy for all ages and skill levels.
If you love it, please pin or share it for someone else to find and enjoy. Thanks friends!

I love how easy these were to make, and you’re right, kids would love them! It’s so cool how it looks like they’re moving with the flowing back.

These are so cute! I’ve made them with liquid starch and that is quite the mess. Your mom’s way is much easier and I actually have all of the supplies to do my own. Love this idea.
I’ll have to tell you, what I really love is your antique trunk. Is it a family piece?
Kim at Hunt and Host says
This is a much easier way! The trunk is a Round Top Antiques week find…many years ago. I paid $60 for it 🙂

Does the stiff starch up hold the weather outside?
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I am not sure, haven’t tried outside. If in a covered setting it might, but I wouldn’t leave it in the elements.
