There was a time I would have told you to toss all those old wicker baskets you had stuffed under your kitchen sink. I would have thought they were outdated and useless. But I would have been wrong. Everything comes back around and usually with a little twist to it. I’m ALL ABOUT baskets right now…those little ones you see in piles at the thrift store. The ones that overflow out of boxes at garage sales. And I think you might be on board with them once you see this awesome basket wall I created in under 15 minutes!
Where to Find Vintage Baskets
OK – so it really took less than 15 minutes to hang this basket wall idea, but it took me a little longer to collect the baskets. I started a stash and grabbed them when I found baskets that I knew would work for my wall art. I paid $1 or 2 for most of these! Patience friend – practice patience and hunt often! I got a good stockpile at the Salvation Army on my trip to Waco. Be sure to check your local thrift stores and resale shops, garage sales, clearance aisles in decor stores and your own kitchen cabinets.
What Kind Of Baskets to Look For
I looked for similar colors, but different styles and sizes. Slightly flat or shallow woven, rattan or wicker baskets. I took a few that were broken, because I am too. You can select a color scheme that works for your decor. I also used some things that were basket – like. For instance one item is a rattan plate charger from Hobby Lobby. One “basket” is actually a woven paper plate holder. We used to have a ton of these growing up! A couple baskets are new, but only two of them, the rest are curated from all over.
How to Hang Baskets on A Wall
Once my pile was big enough I went to work. You can watch the video – nothing fancy, just start with your largest basket and use it as the anchor. I put my large basket (that came from our trip to Thailand last year!) in the center and went out from there. I wanted my basket wall art to have movement so I swooshed it over the door. I can’t explain how much this simple gallery wall of baskets changed my entire bathroom. I love it so much and it was a super budget friendly decorating idea, yea!!!
I hung each basket with a nail that had a decent size head on it. The nails literally disappear when you nail them through the woven portion o f the basket. Plus the baskets are lightweight so it was very easy to hang them with a small nail, so the holes will be minimum should I decide to change decorations on this wall.

Your wall is terrific! I have been collecting flattish baskets for a while now, still not done. I had a vague idea to put them on a wall, but this has solidified the idea and my bathroom is the perfect place! Thanks for another great post!

I was surprised to see I have a basket just like one you hung that I have had since 1968. Very old and still in good shape. Love your basket wall décor.

Ohhh, I likey! Now, tell me how to use my baskets that are deeper. I have a bin of all sorts of baskets – ones with handles, some without handles, some deep, some a bit shallower. Any ideas?
Deniseinark says
You might be surprised at how easy it is to remove handles from baskets with no damage to the basket. Use pruning shears. Makes a lot more baskets useable, even old cheap Easter baskets that can be dyed or painted if you don’t like the colors.
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I love this idea! I have removed handles before when I broke a basket, but it would be perfect for this application, thanks for the tip!

This looks so good! I just love the colors and textures. It reminds me of a wall I did in the mid-80’s when we lived in Trinidad for a year. So glad you shared!

Absolutely Beautiful. However, it is such a dust collector.
