Decorating with Architectural Elements
If you are like me (and I think you are a touch or you wouldn’t be here 😉 )you like old stuff. Old houses, old people, old ways. The thing is we can’t always have an old house or expensive old antiques. But we can add age to our new stuff with architectural elements from days past. Here are a few fun ways you can easily add some random thrifted finds to add instant age to your home and surroundings.
Whenever I hit the fields at Round Top I am drawn to rusty old wrought iron and spindly chunks of architecture. One of the last pieces I collected sat in the closet waiting a resting place for quite some time until it’s new home hit me. Our kitchen is in an old home, recently remodeled using old wood as a back splash, but it somehow still wasn’t “old” enough for me.I secured this little wrought iron treasure up above my oven and feel like instant age washed over the place. Look for little spots in your house calling for a twinkle of patina. Another old gate piece I have shows it’s face frequently in mantel décor and holiday vignettes. These basic pieces are so versatile for layering and adding interest. Check out these fun ways my friends have used interesting architecture pieces to add age and life into their décor: Baluster Light From Sadie Seasongoods
Bicycle Wheel Table by Reinvinted
Ornamental Iron Décor from Postcards From The Ridge
Open Shelves with Corbels from Pretty Handy Girl
Old Doors for a Headboard from Averie Lane
Kitchen Island with Antique Corbel from Robb/Restyle
Old Screen Décor from House of Hawthorns
I love this idea and have done similar decorating here and here!

So the next time you are out junking and see an interesting architectural piece, pick it up…I promise it will find a home quickly and add instant age to your space! I hope these fresh ideas inspired you to keep your eyes peeled for the little touches that make all the difference! Be sure to save this post for when you find the perfect piece.

Great ideas! I love your iron piece in your kitchen 🙂 I have an old iron gate attached to the wall on my patio and it’s now a trellis for a jasmine plant 🙂
