I do this blog post twice a year and it is one of my favorite things to do!!! Vintage trends from Round Top Antiques Week. It’s fall 2022 and Round Top was a beautiful time. The weather was perfect, the sights were inspiring and my happy place delivered the biggest smiles ever. You have to read to the bottom for the BEST trend I found at Round Top this season.
In case you are new to the blog and Round Top, you might be wondering what is Round Top Antiques Week? I’ve written about it a ton, but basically, it’s a HUGE event that happens twice a year in the tiny town of Round Top, Texas. Miles and miles of country roads and pastures turn into the most exciting antique and vintage shops you could ever hope for. You can hunt for days to find one-of-a-kind treasures and trinkets. The crazy thing is, even with all the unique finds, trends pop up and you will see decorating trends on repeat throughout the tents. I love to share what’s hot on the vintage scene with you, so you can thrift for yourself with a sharpened eye. You might even have some items already or you can scoop some up in my Mercantile. Here is the list of vintage trends from Round Top Antiques Week!
Vintage Trends From Round Top
- Turkey Platters – I know it’s fall and Thanksgiving is in the air, but these vintage transferware platters have my heart. The prices range from hundreds of dollars to 20 bucks, you can collect them for a gorgeous fall vibe.
- Bird Decor – Birds are flying around everywhere!!! Y’all I’m not kidding when I tell you birds are on point. From duck decoys to dishes and paintings. Pick your favorite feathered friend and put them to work in your home!
- Small Cubbies – Think shadow boxes and letter press trays. Anything with small compartments and cubbies was seen on repeat. You don’t have to fill them, just display them. You can hang them on a wall, lean them in a vignette or lay them flat and use as a tray. Old patinaed wood will steal the show every time.
- Scales – There where famhouse scales in almost every booth I visited. Many had them on display in mass, so if you have more than one, line them up for visual impact. Don’t have a good source to find an old school scale? Shop our selection here.
- Vintage Bingo Cards – This was a fun sight to see over and over. Buckets of old time Bingo cards brought back memories. Who doesn’t love a good game of Bingo? Throw them in a dough bowl, hang them in a gallery wall or style in a vignette.
- Humor – Ok, so this isn’t an actual ITEM, but it’s a reminder to have fun in all you do. Round Top never disappoints on the strange and unusual and this show didn’t faulter. People are so funny and creative, I always walk away feeling inspired to stretch my imagination and keep things light and simple. Headless dolls popped up more than once, but this tree full of them took the cake…
- Dried Vines – Lots of the natural decor I saw this show was simply dried vines. Typically they were twirled into a wreath and displayed in a stunning way. There were quite a few vines dried with the fruit on and this was my favorite version of this easy to re-create at home trend. Talk about budget friendly decor, go on a walk and bring your clippers for a DIY copycat!
- Crocks – Vintage crocks have been popular forever and while they never actually went away, they were back in droves. I saw so many lovely crocks in all sizes and at decent prices. It makes sense, they are a farmhouse staple and work hard in your home. Use them to store wooden spoons and rolling pins, potted plants or just let them sit empty and show off.
- White Dishes – I am in LOVE with white dishes and always will be! You can’t make me stop, LOL!!! I’m glad to know the more the better after the displays I saw ALL over the place! You can never have too many pieces of Ironstone and vintage dishes. Pitchers, platters, plates, cups, sauces and tureens – bring ’em on!
- Vintage Christmas Tree Stands – I can’t stand how cute these vintage Christmas tree stands are. We saw a few and it made me want to have a naked tree with pretty “shoes”. I love how pretty functional things used to be made.
- Fun Places to Stay – Once again, not an item to collect or decorate with but a definite trend in Round Top. Back when I started going to Round Top, there weren’t many places to stay. Now there are tons of Bed & Breakfast spots popping up near and far. This trip I rented a cabin about 40 miles away from Round Top in Smithville, Texas. I wanted a get away spot and change of scenery and this cabin was absolutely amazing. I highly recomend it for a Round Top stay, or just a weekend getaway!
- Shilouettes – I adore shilouettes and am so happy to see this trend alive and well. I’ve seen this trend for a while, but it is growing strong. There are two kinds of shilouette art I’ve been seeing around. One is the traditional profile in black and white and the other is a scenery shilouette with a background. They are both so cool and unique, I’d take either!
- Molds – Vintage food molds were literally all over – copper, tin, cast iron, ironstone. I saw lots of these cuties. Tons of them were fish molds, but many were just beautiful designs. These would make gorgeous kitchen decor, especially if you displayed a collection.
- Large Corbels – Corbels are always in style, but the ones I saw this show were LARGE. They had a price tag to match. If you are willing to spend some money these architectural elements are amazing, if not search out some great reproductions and enjoy!
- Taxidermy – Taxidermy is always around, but it was very prevalent this go round. If you’ve been here a minute, you know I’m a fan. There were some really gorgeous speciman around and a lot more variety that just deer, which is a Texas staple. I loved how many shops dressed up the taxidermy with a little dried vine or wreath accent.
- Memories – This is a broad reaching trend, but if you stroll through the fields, tents and shops you are bound to come across something that reaches into the depths of your mind and brings forth a memory you forgot all about. It’s one of my favorite parts of antiquing, you never know what you’ll find and the thoughts, feelings and emotions it will spark. Maybe you’ll come across gumballs you remember having in your yard as a kid or your grandmother’s china pattern. Who knows, but collect those memories and keep the best ones on hand!
- Player Piano Scrolls – I remember a friend having a player piano in her house as a kid and I was always mesmerized by it. Seeing player piano rolls scattered throughout Round Top made me think of that old piano. They make for a fun decorating accent and great conversation starter.
- Black & White Photos – While old photos never really go out of style, finding new things to do with them is always fun. I loved seeing them displayed in a few fun ways this show. Old photos are one of the things most people have or can easily collect inexpensively. Use them to display loved ones or just create awesome vignettes full of old school pictures and fun displays! When in doubt dump them all in a bowl and call it a great decorating day.
- Love – Last but certainly not least is love. Round Top delivered a special treasure this time and I am so happy to share it with you guys! I got engaged! This man is the sweetest thing in the world, he knows that Round Top is my happy place and decided to make it even happier by asking me to marry him. I said, “OF COURSE!” I had the greatest time sharing my love of junk hunting with my love. What a blessing I will never forget. My love of all things old and worn, tattered and torn mirrors the love God has for each of us, he redeems us, heals us and restores us. Only He can. I am so grateful to know that God has not once left my side over the past few years. He is right by yours side as well friend, planning things you never saw coming. Hold tight and stay strong in Him alone. xoxo
