This post is jam-packed with master bedroom decorating ideas for ya! I’m going to show you a crisp vintage paint color palette AND a fabulous budget curtain hack that looks like a million bucks! Honestly, I am so excited to share these curtains with you! The whole room is coming together as I dig into transforming our home and I hope it inspires you to freshen up your space if needed! Let’s look at how this room started. Remember we moved to Ladd’s house and he was a bachelor for a few years…
A while back I talked about the importance of a mood board. I really feel like this is key to having a room come together with a cohesive feel that accomplishes the look that lives in your head.
As I was gathering ideas for the master bedroom I had a few things to deal with. One was the furniture I had in there and the color it was already painted. I had to decide if I wanted to leave it that way or change it. Because we have so many projects going on around this house I really wanted to leave the color, so I went with it.
This helped me establish a paint color palette that would work with everything in the room. I always loved the green room in my last house and the large storage piece that I painted green made its way to the master bedroom in this house. I kept that Urban Garden color here and decided to go bold and put it on the ceiling. It makes the room feel so big and unique. The walls are a crisp white called pearly white. I’ve had this white in many other houses and I absolutely love it. The neutral tones of white, green and brown soothe my eyes and mind giving us a solid place to relax the end of the day. Here are some other green paint choices you may want to explore.
My jumping off piece for decor was an embroidered scene I picked up in France years ago. I’ve always adored this piece and it hung in my laundry room at our last house that made center stage in the bedroom this time. The colors blend so well, it adds a vintage vibe and helps marry Ladd and I’s decor styles. With him loving hunting, fishing, and all things taxidermy and me loving a good vintage, European countryside, feel I thought it was perfect to set the tone for our bedroom.
I was able to talk him into helping me paint the bedroom so it went much faster and since he rolled most of the ceiling I got the easy part of trimming. I’m happy to say we survived our first few DIYs together!
We desperately needed new curtains not just for light contro,l but because I aesthetically have to have them!!! As I was looking through the Ballard Design catalog I fell in love with some buffalo check curtains. The bad news is they were $399 for two panels and I needed four panels, so $800 was not happening in my bedroom! That price tag just goes against everything I believe in.
I searched around for an affordable hack and I hit the jackpot!!! I was able to recreate this precious buffalo check curtain for $100. I’m giving you the link here so if you want to try this amazing curtain hack you can grab them for yourself. They’re actually tablecloths that I found on Amazon.
I bought a pack of curtain clips and hung them to the rods that were already at the house and for less than $120 all in I had $800 dupe curtains. The cool thing about these tablecloths is they come in a lot of different sizes and colors, so you’re likely able to find some that fit your windows too.
I also bought the white rattan shades on Amazon. I really love them, they’re the cordless kind so they’re easy to raise and lower allowing bright sun in during the day and close out the world at night. I went with the light white so they would blend and keep up with a soft neutral palette I was going for.
In case you have a man that loves taxidermy like I do, I find it best to group it all together and just lean into it. Sometimes it looks better to have a group of something than to have walls scattered and lined. Your eye needs a place to rest and focus, grouping like items helps with this. I’ll be able to mix in my vintage treasures with this really easily. Our bedroom still has a way to go on the decor front and the floors need an update pretty bad, but we haven’t gotten that far yet. I’ll keep you posted though so stay tuned!
Here’s a resource guide if you want to shop any of the elements in our master bedroom. I linked the exact items where I could and gave you super similar choices where I couldn’t find the exact match. Hope it helps!

I never would have thought that a dark ceiling would be a good look, but I am seeing it with my own eyes—it is gorgeous and with the white/light everything below the ceiling!! Good job!
P.S. Your new hubby the Lord sent you has the kindest looking face…..seems as though you have been very blessed!

Congratulations to you and Ladd! Mixing two lives to become one can be fun, and challenging! I have a hunter husband. I finally had to tell him no more deer heads on the walls. So, he put two up at our bunkhouse and two more in our office off our shop. They find their ways of throwing their ‘decor’ in there! I do love what you’ve done with your bedroom. It’s so much calmer, and I love your green piece!

My hubby and I got married 3 years ago and I moved into his house. You’re lucky my hubby doesn’t think anything needs changing. Doesn’t want holes in the walls! But I’m slowly getting my way with that. Command strips do not work well at all! He has that same sleigh bed furniture in all 3 bedrooms. He thinks if it’s not broke then it’s fine the way it is. All the walls are eggshell except the 2 spare bedrooms, one is navy blue and the other is purple. Colors his kids picked out when they were younger. Which they never lived in this house. He got this one in the divorce. I love the place out here but the house needs some much help! Maybe one day he’ll come around!
