Upcycled Christmas Card Display
Christmas cards are one of my very favorite things about the holidays. I love seeing familiar faces show up in my mailbox! As my kids have gotten older it’s even gotten easier to take our own Christmas card photo – they cooperate so much better now, lol! I love to use an upcycled Christmas card display to show off all the bright shiny faces that usher in the holiday season.

One of my favorite curbside finds is this old baby bed spring. I use it all the time for various decorating uses like a mantel backdrop. At Christmas, it has a special place. Over the years, my decorating has branched out and I even take things off the walls and hang up seasonal pictures and decor. Do you do that? It used to seem like a royal pain, but I love the way it changes things up. That’s where the old crib spring comes into play.
I love to hang it on a prominent wall in my kitchen, decorate it with a wreath or swath of greenery, maybe a little banner, and wait for the cards to come…they decorate the rest. The cards neatly tuck in between the springs and the spacing gives enough room to see all the cards. As Christmas day approaches and this upcycled Christmas card display is bursting at the seams so is my heart.
If you want to add a fun upcycled like this to your holiday decor there are a few places you can look. I always suggest driving with your eyes peeled. These old cribs wind up on the curb all the time, I have found more than one! Of course, garage sales and thrift shops are good hunting grounds too. One place you may want to explore is the scrap metal facility. If you have a scrap metal recycling yard in your town that would be ideal, the piles of tossed and tangled metal are sure to unearth a jewel. They might even have something more exciting than an old crib!
For years now I have ordered our Christmas cards from Minted. I use them for a variety of reasons. I love all the original, on-trend designs they have, the free addressing is AMAZING and they have a large selection of Christian Christmas cards to name a few reasons. Whenever the box of cards arrives in the mail it feels like a gift for me too. They are wrapped beautifully and personally inspected before shipping. I guess they kind of are a gift to me, I save a few each year for our scrapbooks, to look back on years later.
This year we took our own picture (again, 3rd year in a row!) at our deer lease. It’s kind of the family happy place and this gorgeous wall is across the road from our hunting camp. We have so many family memories in this place, so while the card is cute, the family photo really means a lot to everyone in our crew. As the years slip like water through my hands I know these sweet little faces will soon be out on their own. What matters most in these fleeting years is right here in this card and in the midst of the reason we celebrate Christmas at all. I hope you take the time to send cards this year (if you are on the fence, read this!) and relish the ones you receive. Happy birthday Jesus, may you be the light we shine and live by in the coming year. Blessings to you and yours this Christmas friends!
