Thrifted Summer Vignette

It’s officially summer according to me. June 1st is the starting line to summer in my head. The kids still have a few days of school left and the solstice calendar won’t declare it for a few more weeks, but today is my go day.

To kick it off I’m sharing the Hunt & Host quote of the month and a fresh little vignette on display in my home.

We have a huge island in my kitchen and it’s one of the areas I decorate and re-decorate on a regular basis. It’s a fun spot to throw in some seasonal flair or the latest thrift store finds. Some of my latest thrifting adventures have turned up small little bits and pieces. I haven’t been buying a ton of big items like furniture lately because I’m on the hunt for very specific things and I have most of my house furnished in a way I like for now (that will change!). My eyes have been draw to little knick knacks.

In order to make little trinkets not look lost it’s best to group them together. That’s exactly what this little summer vignette is. Just a bunch of stuff that caught my eye and makes me happy.

The line about maintaining regret gets me every time.

Maintaining is a labor heavy word. Think about maintaining your yard. Maintaining your house. Even maintaining the hair on your legs! It means continually keeping up, providing support, providing the upkeep for something. It’s work.

It can be exhausting and at the very least an energy or brain drain.

Just think about how often we MAINTAIN regret. We feed, nurture and support something in the past. We regret the job we didn’t take, the words we said or didn’t say, the way we behaved, the would have, should have, could haves. Like a broken record our thoughts go round of how things would be different “if only”.  Hours, days, maybe years and sleepless nights maintaining some moment in time we can never change.

All that time can be better spent. When we lay regret, shame and our junk at the feet of Jesus we can be free from the heavy burden of maintaining the past. With all that free time and lightened load we can think on things that are good and pure (Philippians 4:8)…and things we can actually do something about. Things like helping a neighbor, speaking loving words to your man, writing a note to a friend, reading the bible, chasing God sized dreams or just walking in freedom. God already knows every regret you hold in your heart. He simply doesn’t take what you don’t give him. He isn’t a thief. He won’t steal away your regretful thoughts, he wants them freely given to Him. His love will cover anything you hand over. He is just waiting to pour his grace and mercy all over whatever it is that’s playing on repeat in your mind.
