If you’ve ever wanted to travel through the sleepy towns of Texas and explore all there is to do in this great state, I’m your girl. We spent last weekend in the tiny town of Brady, Texas and it was just dreamy. Here is a weekend recap and ideas of things to do in Brady Texas in case the open roads of Texas call your name!
We were blessed with an unexpected four-day weekend and decided to head to the hill country and our hunting lease. My boys will tell you it is their favorite place – better than Disney World. I have to agree, getting out in the fresh air and off the grid for a few days always does a body good. My daughter was unable to tag along because she is busy with rehearsals for a big theater production, so we missed having her. She had a fun time back home with her favorite aunt though.
One of my goals for the year is to mix things up a bit and get out of the house more, explore the beautiful state of Texas and slow down to enjoy all there is to do in small-town Texas. On that note, I decided to start now and make a pit stop in the heart of Texas – Brady. Brady is about a two-hour drive northwest of Austin, Texas. While the great state isn’t a shape that can easily be divided, Brady is considered the center of Texas, therefore it’s called the heart of Texas.
The sweet little downtown square is quintessential Texas. A beautiful old court house in the center, surrounded by old brick buildings that house stores, business fronts and restaurants. The to do list in Brady isn’t super long but it is long on charm. We started our weekend adventure hitting the vintage and antique shops downtown.
Of course we explored the thrift and antique shops in Brady, but we also ate a delicious meal at the Italian place on the square and then enjoyed a movie at the one screen movie theater. They still hand out little Admit One tickets – so incredibly charming! We had to stand in line at the ticket booth to get a seat, no online reservations here. We blended in like a local – it was a blast.
I’m going to share a TON of fun pictures from the stores in town and few on along the way. The best part of taking a road trip is enjoying the journey. We stopped in other towns whenever something looked fun, took our time and refused a schedule. Sometimes we need to take that step back and just go where the day takes us. Hope these photos and highlights of our trip to the hill country give you a delightful break in your day.

Of course this town is surrounded by amazing hunting and landscape if you are an outdoors person, you can find a ton to do locally. I personally like to hunt vintage and antiques wares. D&J’s was honestly one of the most fun shops I’ve been to in a while.
My son said it was his favorite shop like that – and I’ve dragged him to quite a few. 🤣🤣 Most of the pictures I’m sharing are from that store. They actually have two locations in town and BOTH are worth a visit. Here are some super fun things I saw!!!
I saw a LOT of things that would be great to collect. If you don’t have some sort of vintage collection going, I encourage you to do so. It is so fun to hunt for treasures and grow your collection. I saw a TON of bells…
Plus some interesting medical items…
and set ups…
There were a number of fun decorating scenes that you could definitely steal some ideas from. Like these books…
or this plate (or clock) situation…
I saw LOTS of fun moments where my boys entertained themselves. These were the best moments for sure!
When out junkin’ I never fail to find something new I adore.
And find some things that make me laugh.
There is always something for everyone. From the avid outdoorsman (or woman)…
to the crafter’s treasure trove..
to a collector’s dream…
to the sports fanatic…
to those looking for a missing piece…
and those searching for sage advice…
Truly. Good old fashioned fun.
With a reminder to not take things so seriously. Because life is short.
I truly hope you’ll add a fun day trip to your calendar, it does the soul good! If you want to check out some other fun places I love look HERE!!!
