Oh friend. This swing. This swing was a wedding gift, lovingly made by a dear family friend. Since we have been married 19 years this year, the swing is definitely in need of a face lift. I’m going to share a few paint sprayer tips in this video and show you how easy it was to makeover our beloved swing with my trusty Wagner paint sprayer. I’d like to thank Wagner for sponsoring this post, all opinions are my own!
An extra sweet note to this swing…it’s patterned after swings my granddaddy used to make when he was still alive. Granddaddy loved woodworking and made swings for everyone. I never got one of his, but our friend did and built swings inspired by the pattern, so our swing is like a next generation granddaddy model. This swing has hung in all our homes except the last one and I’m determined to have it front and center in this house! When I took a look at it though, it seemed a tad tired and in need of rejuvenation. Luckily that isn’t more than a little paint can fix (wish it were that easy for tired mamas ???? ). I busted out my Wagner paint sprayer for this makeover because there is NO WAY I could paint down in all the cracks and crevices of this old swing and have it come out as good as I knew the sprayer would do. Plus it was about a million times faster.
This quick video will show you how easy it is to spray your outdoor furniture for spring and summer, watch for useful tips and techniques to get the job done professionally. I am happy to answer any questions you might have, ask away in the comments!
My friend Amy also updated her DIY outdoor kitchen sink, it is a great project you need to check out for more outdoor patio ideas and paint tips. Well, the paint job turned out fantastic, silky smooth, even coverage in a stunning black. Now I need to decide if I find a place to hang the swing OR add legs to it and make it a bench for now.???? What do you think? I am leaning toward bench because I don’t have the perfect hanging spot at our home. Any other suggestions welcome! Friend, I truly adore my Wagner FLEXiO paint sprayer and if you are interested in getting one for your makeover needs you can one here. Here are a few other projects I’ve done with my paint sprayer if you’d like more tips and ideas!

Thanks a bunch

No to bench. A swing is always a swing. Build a frame for it and put anywhere.
Kim at Salvaged Living says
🙂 I do love a swing!

A bench is nice but I would leave it as a swing.
I agree with Susan; Build a swing frame and mount your swing. https://cmd-ks.biz/outdoor-swing-with-stand-2/

I agree there is nothing more soul resting that swinging on a porch swing looking at all God has created! Especially in the Spring and Fall when our world changes seasons seasons!
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I agree!

Looks fantastic in black! And I agree with the others to build a frame and continue to use it as a swing. My husband has always used outdoor wood protector on our swing maybe she needs a good coat of paint to dress her up!

Love the black … what’s the exact color on it?
And what model sprayer do you have?
(Will I be able to move as fast as you do in the video running in the sidebar????)
Thanks Kim!

I bought that sprayer when you posted it with a big discount. (Thanks, by the way!) Can’t wait to try it now that the weather is getting nicer. I love, love a porch swing!!
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I’m so glad you got one. I use mine all the time and live it…the more you use it the better you get with so keep practicing once you start
Christy Little says
Love the new look! Do you just do 1 coat with the sprayer or do you do 2?
Kim at Salvaged Living says
It usually takes one coat with a few touch up spots, but it a little bit depends on the paint you use. Good quality paint is one coat. Also when I first started using the sprayer I wasn’t as great at it and would have to do two coats, but now I do one because I’ve gotten better at using the sprayer! Thanks so much

The swing turned out beautiful! Is the paint finish satin? Thank you!
Kim at Salvaged Living says
Yes, I usually use a satin finish for outdoors and indoors I prefer flat! thanks!
