You guys! I saw this precious Halloween table runner on one of my favorite home decor sites, but the price tag was not my favorite! I decided to dupe it for next to nothing and I’m gonna walk you through how I did it so you can too! This scary squad halloween table runner is seriously SO precious and easier than you might think to dupe!! I recommend turning on your favorite Halloween movie and just getting to it!
here’s what you’ll need
- drop cloth
- sharpie
- orange, black, yellow and white paint
- scissors
- …and a little time!!
how to make your own scary squad halloween table runner
First, you’re going to cut your drop cloth into a table runner. The size of this will depend solely on your preferences, and it’s one of the beauties of making your own. Longer table, you can make yours longer. Shorter table, make it shorter. You can completely customize it to be exactly what you need! And just a little reminder here: a table runner doesn’t ONLY go on a dining room table! It can go on an entryway table, a coffee table, a side table, or even an island sort of bunched up. Get creative with it!! Also – fun to note this design was put on other fun Halloween home decor items like pillows, tea towels and napkins, so make a smaller version on one of these items if you want!
After your drop cloth is cut to the size of your liking, it’s time for the fun part– painting and drawing. I know so many women who tell me, “I can’t paint,” or “I can’t draw,” but the truth is, there’s nothing to it but to do it girl. This is the time to let your creative juices flow, and don’t be too hard on yourself. I simply pulled up the product pics on the website and copied those the best I could, making changes when and where I need. If something seems too complicated or you don’t like it, skip it! It is your dupe after all!
This part is pretty time consuming, which is why I recommend making it a fun little “date” with yourself. Grab a snack, turn on your favorite movie, and let your creativity run free for a couple hours. Not only will you be left with a gorgeous, budget-friendly table runner (that would normally cost you $99), but it’s good for the soul to get times like these– trust me.
Here are a few tips to copying something you see and want to duplicate on your own!
- Break down the design. See how they layered the colors of designs. When you break something down into layers it makes the process more manageable!
- Pay attention to scale. It’s important to pay attention to the size of the elements as they relate to one another. That way your pumpkins aren’t bigger than your ghosts or something like that!
- Watch spacing. Notice how far apart things are from each other and how one item is spaced, related to another. This will help you with the overall layout.
- Skip the hard parts. If something is too far out of your wheelhouse, skip it and make your own design, re-do a part that you can do and remember, no one is holding your piece up to the original, so allow yourself some freedom.
For this project specifically I noticed the layers and just drew them and built on them. It was a time consuming project, but I am so pleased and excited with the outcome!
And there you have it– a $15 (or less) table runner that would’ve cost you $99 from a big brand home decor site!! Not only did you save money, but you got to let your creativity flow. It’s a win all around if you ask me! If you make this will you PLEASE show me! So – do you think you will make it? Tell me in the comments!!!

THANK YOU for this – I can’t wait to try! I’m so disappointed everything is sold out or only available on ebay for 2-3 times the market price!
