Ahh stinky boys. Do you have any in your house? Well, even if they are a crazy crew it doesn’t mean their bathroom has to be! These ideas are PERFECT for a rustic bathroom makeover, especially if it is a small bathroom like ours! I’d like to thank Crates & Pallet for sponsoring this bathroom makeover, all ideas and opinions are mine.
First, let’s see where this bathroom started…I really wanted to make this small boy’s bathroom look extra nice. I poke fun about my stinky boys, but they really are amazing and make my heart so full (and don’t smell bad all the time.) They were the inspiration for this bathroom because, well…it’s theirs. My rugged, outdoor, love to be in the woods boys needed a rustic retreat to do their manly business in! I needed more room and a cute space. The first addition was shelves.
Shelves are amazing for a small space. They add another dimension and cute, out of the way, place to decorate. Plus they add extra storage.???? Who couldn’t use extra storage!? Crates & Pallet makes the perfect shelf brackets in forges steel. I used the 6 inch black shelf brackets to create the perfect size shelf system in the bathroom. The 6 inch width was perfect for over the toilet, they don’t stick out to far. You can find these shelf brackets here, and will see they come in a variety of sizes and also in gold (I used the gold ones here ????????????).
I love using these shelf brackets because they come in a few different widths, but each width is made to fit dimensional lumber. That means it is super easy to find wood that fits the brackets width-wise. Then you can make your shelves any length you need…my favorite part of DIYing things. Instead of searching high and low for the right size and color shelf, just cut a few pieces of wood and you are good to go. I opted to paint the shelves solid black, but you could use any color or even stain like I did in our green room. A few screws and you are well on your way to a rugged mountain cabin!
If I am being honest I wasn’t up for painting another room right now and I really wanted to wallpaper, but this small room would have been a nightmare to wallpaper. So many doors and windows and cut outs, ugh. I decided to DIY some faux wallpaper and it was soooo easy! Tutorial coming soon! I decided to go all out with the plaid fabric. I love how it is all over and reminds me of back when ladies would plaster their house in chintz fabric. These little faux wallpaper panels let me dress up this room on a budget and without much sweat equity.
The custom shower curtain is another way to make a small bathroom look fabulous, rustic cabin feel or not! It works for any decor. I can do a tutorial on how to make this shower curtain situation work later if you want? I mixed a lightweight chambray denim with the flannel plaid and love the way the two feel together.
I’ll share some more on this bathroom later, but for now wanted to give you some decorating ideas to chew on for a rustic bathroom…or really any style if you just change things up a bit! Let me know if you have nay questions. Hope you like it! Pin it for later if so.
