This retro Give Thanks sign gives a little thrown back feel to your holiday décor
This sign is a little more retro than I usually go (I mean I had a boho table just a few weeks ago! Make up your mind Kim!), but it is a fun feel for our guest entry. Purple has been a favorite fall color for a few years now and I wanted to add some more to the mix with this DIY retro give thanks sign.
You guys are going to have to forgive me, I can’t find my before and in process pictures!!! I will explain how I did it, I hope that helps! I started with an old board and lightly sanded it. Next I cut some retro letters out of cardstock with my Cricut. You could just as easily print, trace and cut with scissors if you don’t have a cutting machine. I used Bauhaus 93 font for this sign. I liked the old school feel and the letters came out almost stencil like, which equals easy for DIY sign making!
I painted the board in a white and purple color block. To paint the words I used the cut out letter surround as a stencil and painted give the same purple as the rest of the sign. The thanks letters each got a different shade. If you hand cut your letters, work backwards by painting where each letter will be a different color, lay the cut out letter on top and paint your solid color over the stencil, just hold it in place tightly! Here are some sign tips that might help. The whole sign got distressed with a 220 grit sandpaper. This sign was a fun way to pick out some random left over paint colors I don’t use much and mix them into a retro color scheme.
Two days after Halloween the pumpkin patch by our house had FREE pumpkins!!! On the way to school my youngest and I stopped and he had a blast running around picking out his favorite pumpkins and hauling them back to the car…they were giant. Love them piled around my trusty guard dog. 😉 Here is another small thanksgiving sign you might enjoy. I would be so thankful if you shared this one. Blessings to you this week and holiday season, give thanks in all circumstances and things are bound to be beautiful!
