I think there’s nothing better than making your own decor using items you already have, or at least for the most part! Personally, cardboard and paper are favorites of mine because I’ve always got some laying around, it’s incredibly cheap, even free in some cases, and it can be fixed up to look stunning!
My most recent DIY had a rustic, Farmhouse-vibe, and let me tell you, it’s a new favorite of mine! Not only is it now decor I’m proud to show off, but I made it with my own two hands– and for almost no money!!
rustic art with cardboard & paper
WHAT YOU NEED to make this
- Rustic Farm Animal (or something similar)
- Paper (dictionary, bible concordance, whatever you fancy)
- A Maker’s Studio Stencils
- Wood Finish
- Cardboard
- Mod Podge
- Ribbon
- Drop Cloth
…and again, keep in mind that if you don’t have some of these supplies, that is totally ok! You can substitute in whatever you do have!
the finished product
This DIY is essentially a pretty moshpit of all of those supplies, all roughed up and made to look vintage and old! And of course, it’s always fun to put words on art, and what’s more fun than simply stating what’s already right in front of you? There’s some charm and a good laugh in that, right!?
Anyway, this piece turned out beautiful, in my opinion of course, and you could lean something like this up in your kitchen like I did, or even add some jute twine or ribbon to the back and hang it on your peg board!! Either option would be absolutely gorgeous, and still just as budget-friendly!
I just love this project, and it’s a great testament to the things that can be done with what you already have! Spending money does not equal beauty!
