Old linens get a boho chic makeover as a cute wall hanging
Purging my house has never been so fun! It feels good to clean out and toss out, but even more fun to bring life to some unwanted/unusable items. Today’s project is from the linen closet. Once or twice a year I like to go through and re-organize the sheets, grouping the matching pillow cases that go astray and moving the pillow count to something manageable in the kids rooms. It’s like their pillows have legs and one room will end up with no pillows and the next will literally have 10! This year I was tossing some stained pillow cases and decided to make a cute little wall hanging.
This idea is bent for Valentine’s Day, but could easily be made into cute decor for every day or even changed up as the seasons roll through. I did a Facebook live video on how to make the basic part of the wall hanging with a sweet little yarn accent. It’s very boho chic which is in style right now. I thin this little project could blend in with just about any decor. I actually made a large one for fall and now it’s hanging over my piano.
I changed the wall hanging up a bit from the video because, well, I just wanted to – no good reason! I decided to dangle some neutral DIY hearts and top it with a cute bow that matches my new Valentine mantel! Here is how I made the DIY hearts…
My go to DIY project medium is old cereal boxes, we always seem to have a ton on hand. I cute different size and shape hearts that I drew free hand on the cardboard. Hearts are easiest when you draw one side, fold the cardboard in half and cut, so the two sides match. Next I grabbed some fabric scraps and some aluminum foil (it’s my current favorite pantry supply, did you see these tags?). I traced the hearts onto different fabrics (drop cloth, burlap, etc) and cut out the pieces, slightly larges than the cardboard. I cut a front and a back piece. Using Mod Podge I glued the fabric to the cardboard. Super simple. The “metal” hearts were done the same way, but after gluing I folded the edges around the cardboard and then dark waxed the foil for an aged feel. Poke a hole in each and attach to your wall hanging at various lengths with jute twine for an easy DIY Valentine’s Day wall hanging!
I topped my wall hanging with my favorite black and white houndstooth ribbon for a finishing touch! I added in a few pictures other small nods to Valentine’s Day I added to the kitchen (did you catch this year’s mantel? I LOVE it!). I think they will stay up until I move into Spring/Easter decor.
The berries are such a beautiful pop of color and they come from my yard, FREE is awesome! I’m curious if y’all decorate for Valentine’s Day? I don’t usually do much, but it is a fun excuse to show a little extra love to your friends and family…we could all use that right? I’m always grateful when you save these projects or share them with others, thank you! Have a great day sweet friends.
