My eyes eagerly scan the goods piled in heaps around the store.
Like my cat, Boo, crouched down ready to pounce on an unsuspecting lizard. Not even knowing what it is I’m looking for, I do know the familiar lunge my heart takes when my sights lock in on a treasure. My pulse quickens as I casually glide across the room to inspect my latest find.
Is it in good shape? The right size? Does it need work? And always…is the price right?
All these factors quickly sift through my mental computer and an answer almost instantaneously spits out.
Yay or Nay.
I’m extremely decisive, especially when it comes to treasure hunting.
The latest trophy hails from a thrifting expedition in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. I visited Tish to stay at Miranda Lambert’s bed & breakfast The Ladysmith.
Do you see it? My treasure? Can you pick it from this picture…
Tucked in the back under an old light and a plate?
A classic grey metal typewriter table.
In great shape, on castors (que twinkly eyes) and at an awesome price (I may have got a few other items on my outing 😉 ).
This little guy looks lovely nuzzled up to my youngest’s bedside. It makes the perfect nightstand.
Do you know that familiar feeling when your eyes land on a prized trinket?
It brings me back to the playground days of elementary school where the popular game of Red Rover was often played. I always wanted to be picked. I always wanted those eyes to land on me and say, “Red Rover, Red Rover can Kim come over.”
Do you long to be like a treasure plucked from the obscurity of a thrift store pile? For eyes to settle on you and joyfully proclaim, “I chose you!”
God is the ultimate treasure hunter. He can scan and sift the multitudes in a heartbeat. His eyes longing to land on the right person who’s heart is sold out for him. He is always searching.
Have you ever considered God’s excitement when he looks out into the crowd and sees you? He sees your heart so full of love it could burst. All he wants to do is gather you up, give you everything you need and set you down in the perfect place he has planned for you.
Like the big claw reaching down into the arcade game crammed full with stuffed animals, his grasp never slips, he never misses. Cherry picking from the crowd he scoops up those whose heart’s are all in.
There is no inspection on condition, work needed or price. The price has already been paid. All it takes is a heart for the Lord.
But we hesitate to go, we look away like the kid in class who doesn’t want to be called on. Our hearts want to serve but our humanness says we aren’t enough.
2 Chronicles 16:9 says: For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Sister – of course you aren’t enough! Because only He is.
His deepest desire is to give you what he’s got, he wants to be your strength!
When our heart is knitted close to God’s he will show us His mighty power, it actually lives inside of us. Christ wants to be the heavy hitter, providing everything for us to carry out our calling. God has the perfect place, the perfect job, the perfect purpose for those who love him.
So today, when God’s eyes roam, look up and lock your gaze on the best prize. Answer when he calls your name. Rest in the pleasure of being a chosen one. He’s got the rest, you just need to show up.

I do love your table, but I think it’s an old typing table. We used them in typing class way back when I was in high school. The sides lift up to hold whatever you are typing from. The little drawer held erasers for mistakes. Takes me waaaaaay back!

I think you might be right!! I’ve heard a few people call it that. It reminds me of the table they would wheel around a drs office. But i think typing is right! I will have to change up my post. I love learning about old stuff 🙂 thanks for sharing the memories!

It is a typing table, and I found one at an estate sale for $5 recently. It needed a little TLC and I ended up painting it a metallic gold . I pull it out and use as a TV tray to line up snacks etc. Also could be used as a little portable desk to set up wherever and have a some space to spread out your study materials and possibly a laptop. I love the look of yours as a bedside stand. What a versatile piece! I would jump on another one if I saw it.
I also love your comments on how the Lord seeks for His treasure. I hadn’t made the connection in quite that way.. it gives me something to ponder.

Dear Kim,
I thought perhaps the camera, because you are so spiritually reflective! Love the typing table. The 1st one I found is red, so very cute, snagged at a swap meet. I put my case of full Coca Cola bottles and a Coke stain glass lamp on it in my kitchen/ dining area. The 2nd one I found, identical to yours, was in a truck on it’s way to the dump??? I asked it’s owner if they were selling it and they gave it to me. Just like our Lord knowing when to save us from going on the heap at the dump , that little table was rescued!
You are such an inspiration and example of how easily it is to witness for the Lord in all you do. Your blog is farther reaching I’m sure, than you can imagine. Your recent comparison on how to appreciate and use the scraps left over in life have been very meaningful, when shared, with two very special people in my life.
Thank you and bless you, Holly

this makes my day, I never thought I would be a vessel for the Lord and love every second that he uses this space to minister to someone. What a blessing, Thank you for sharing and you are truly a girl after my own heart…between Jesus and pulling over a truck headed for the dump…I LOVE that!
