I just added a new peg board in the dining room, just in time for for Christmas decor!
I have the full tutorial coming on how to build your own peg rail, but wanted to share it decorated ASAP! I was really debating how to dress this wall up and after mulling over a few ideas I decided a peg board rail was the perfect choice. It looks great and gives me a fun place to decorate seasonally. You can use this idea no matter how big or small your home is. When you DIY, you make it fit YOU and your needs!
Can I tell you how exciting this decorating haul was for me?! The kids, Deedles and I trekked to a new Christmas Tree Farm we found last year and to our sad little surprise, they were out of large trees. WHAT!? After we hung out at the cute tree farm for a minute we loaded up and headed to Home Depot for a tree. They were SO HELPFUL and had plenty to chose from!
While the sweet woman was trimming the base of our tree and wrapping it up I saw a few carts full of greenery trimmings. I asked if they were free or for sale and she said FREE. Well, you know I jumped on that!
We took a whole cart full because she was insistent they were about to throw them away! After they helped us load the tree in our car we headed home.
SOOOOO….decor tip – ask for the freebies because you can really get some mileage out of them! I used these free trimmings EVERYWHERE! For the dining room specifically I made bundles of the two different kinds of Christmas tree trimmings and tied them up with some berries my mom cut from her yard for me. Add a little ribbon and you have quick and easy decor – mine was basically free.
This new peg board is so much fun and I have lots of ideas on how to decorate it throughout the year. I can’t wait to style it over and over! I hope you get some great ideas for your home as well.
I lined up my stash of vintage tobacco bottles and the sight made me smile. I love things in mass. Just look at that lovely warm glow! I’m digging the rustic decor feel of brown and green, it might be slightly non-traditional Christmas coloring, but it feels so cozy to me.
I got this Christmas Tree Wall Hanging last year and just adore it.
For the dining room table decorations I used wrapping paper from Wal-Mart as my “tablecloth” and then layered on the textures.
The centerpiece is more of that free Christmas tree trimming around some of the brown bottles I got on my last trip to Round Top. A silver tray, some wood ornaments and glass pinecone ornaments finish it off. So Simple!
These brown Johnson Brother’s transferware plates are a favorite of mine. We got them at Dillard’s on sale after Christmas years ago. I love to collect vintage transferware to mix and match with them.
Dollar store chargers and tan buffalo check placemats turned sideways soften the lines.
I love making a beautiful table and getting the chance to create one with a ton of free trimmings is even better. Please ask at your local store, take a walk and gather your own and get creative!
Remember – Mother Nature is always in style!!! Merry Christmas blessings friend!
