I might be a little bit excited about my latest project. I’ve been dreaming of an outdoor party buffet table for a while now…
Before I get to the details I want to warn you about the projects you’ll find listed at the bottom of this post. They are beautiful. And you will want to visit them all. So read all the way till the end and then explore. Just a heads up 😉
Ever since my mom and I pulled this old door out of a trash pile on our way home from church I’ve been wanting to make a table out of it. True story. Giggles erupted from the back seat as my children watched their mom and Deedles climb on a heap of trash, rearrange it, wrench this door from it’s grips and shove it through the middle of the Suburban, dresses and heels included.
But the door sat. For a pretty long while. I knew it would be the top part of my party buffet, but the rest hadn’t come together yet.
Then I went to soak up some love and memories with three of my college besties for the weekend in Austin. Our friend was remodeling her kitchen and allowed us to invade her house anyway. Bless her for having us in the midst of her project.
I scored big that weekend. Our yearly visit landed me good food, good laughs and a kitchen sink. It was sitting on her driveway, waiting to be hauled off from the remodel demo and promptly went home with me instead.
Finally I came across a Project on Pinterest and the whole thing came together. Don’t you just love it when you actually make something you see on Pinterest!? I modeled my table after the one I found. I just added a few touches.
Like a kitchen sink for a built in ice chest.
The whole project cost under $50 to make. We used paint grade wood for the base, I bought a can of “oops” paint that I came across in this fun blue color that I love and obviously the door and sink were free.
The bottom rungs are made from old wood pieces I had lying around…a broken bench, fence pickets, etc. It took an afternoon to build and another to paint. Be sure and check in next week as I give you the details on how to build this outdoor buffet. If you don’t want to miss it be sure to subscribe to the e-mail list, so you never miss a post!
If you’ve been to one of the many kiddo parties we have around here your probably on to my party trick. Kids are way more interested in Marco Polo or a mean game of Shark than they are food. So easy does it on the food when we have parties. The most popular thing I’ve found is the infamous chip buffet.
Just line up bowls of chips, pretzels, popcorn and the like. Grubby little hand will glide in for a steal then head back to the pool all carbed up. Easy peasy and everyone is happy. That’s a successful party if you ask me!
This party buffet is perfect for my go to party menu, but can easily be glammed up if needed. Hanging out right by our pool in the covered cabana it’s hardly five steps out of the water to salty crispy bliss. You can see the rest of our yard here in case your interested…and see what the pool looked like before we got a hold of it!
The icing on top of this outdoor party buffet today is that it’s served up beside some other amazing DIY Furniture Girl projects. This month we came together to show you how we were inspired by red, white or blue. My pool blue color was on track, but wait until you see some of these all American inspirations! Check them out and let them know I sent ya!

There is so much I love here, it’s not even funny! First off, the color puts me in my happy place! Secondly, the sink/cooler couldn’t be more perfect, and top it off that the table was originally a door. Great work! I might be slightly, ok, a lot, jelly!!! I’m also crushing on the oil cloth. Too darn cute, girlie.

Thanks friend, come visit anytime 😉

It’s fantastic!! Just my kind of project 🙂
Love the pool blue too!!
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Thanks, it is fun to use a color you wouldn’t necessarily use inside!
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
Love your pool side buffet table, Kim! It looks so good in that space, like it was always there. I’m totally jealous you have a pool. The oops color paired with the salvaged wood slats below and then the clever idea of using a sink is perfect. I’ve been using an coleman cooler in my outdoor bar but after seeing yours, I’m on a mission for a kitchen sink!
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Thanks, I would really love a cast iron sink, wouldn’t that ne great too!!!?

This is what I have been looking for! Jack just finished an “area” for his smoker and we were talking about needing a long narrow table and some sort of cooler. The “area” is hidden in the woods and also has our fire pit so I wanted something “natural.” I’m on the lookout for an old door and a sink…
Kim at Hunt and Host says
You should totally do this!!! What a great space, this would be perfect
Jen @ Girl in the Garage says
Kim, this is fantastic! I love every part of it – the old door top, the blue oops paint, the sink cooler, and those rustic boards on the bottom. I’d love to hang out in your cabana sometime 😉

Love this! Looks so perfect on your patio! I am wondering about how you drain the sink? Does it just drop in and lift out to drain or do u place a container underneath to drain? Thanks for sharing!!
