I added a new kitchen decor idea into the mix at our house. It all started because of my line of sight. You see I sit in the same spot every morning while I drink my coffee, so my view is always the same. And this one spot was boring me. So I decided to change it. (this is also how the balcony ended up getting painted and the gallery wall upstairs was born)
It’s the little things in decorating that make all the difference and if you don’t love one of your common views then change it up! I bought a cheap peg wood coat rack from Walmart and painted it to blend in with my kitchen cabinets. I started with white chalk paint and used a brown glaze over it then sealed it with clear wax. To mount the rack to the kitchen cabinets I used a level and pre-drilled the pilot holes for easy installation.
Next I gathered a pile of things I love, lots of options and had fun playing around with this display until it made me happy. I made sure there were a variety of materials like glass, wood, metal and fabric to bring this new kitchen decor idea to life.
A mix of old and new, like a vintage meat pounder I had to drill a hole in to add a leather strap to hang. And amazing old graters.
Dried lavender from the yard draped over a vintage colander I snagged for $1 at a garage sale years ago.
A precious glass typography cheese board from the Target Dollar Spot.
I can’t wait to change this decor seasonally and as I come across more trinkets that make me smile. Now when I have my coffee all is good in my view. No one else in the world will likely notice this spot, but I do and sometimes you just have to decorate for yourself! You can steal this idea to add some spunk to your kitchen decor or try layering a peg coat rack in your bedroom, bathroom or office for a pretty focal point.

So cute! Don’t you just love to sit back and look at a spot in the house that gives you that “nailed it” feeling?
