I have been thinking about this move for a little bit. As you probably know, I recently went through a divorce. If you’ve walked this road please let me start by saying I am so sorry. It’s a hard one. Not for the faint. I have found myself trying to come to grips with all the change and welcome the new life that is waiting for me. To fully do that, I’ve needed some change that I actually put into motion and want! SO…I’m busy changing things up, getting rid of reminders that aren’t good for me and creating new traditions, habits and memories.
I decided it was time to let go of the dishes I got as a wedding gift 20 years ago. They were tired and I needed something fun and new. Here are my thoughts on this. First off, I wanted something with a little more personality. BUT – I’m kind of a traditionalist, so I can’t be too crazy or I won’t like them long. Second, I wanted something affordable, because – single mom. Third, I have to LOVE them.
I was strolling through Wal-Mart one day when the cutest set of dished reached out and grabbed me. For real. I took a picture of them, went home and thought about them over and over. That’s how I knew they were for me. When I can’t let something go in my mind and it plays on repeat, it’s a good bet. Personality – check. Affordable – check. Love – check.
I went back to Wal-Mart and scooped up an entire new set of dishes. My new dishes have a creamy ivory background with black dots and shiny gold trim. The accessories get better! I adore them.
These dishes come in a box set (4 place settings) or individually. I got three boxes for a total of 12 place settings because when my kids have friends over we can end up feeding A LOT of people. Plus I love to entertain! I’m linking the dishes here in case you love them too, we can be TWINS! There are a lot of other options online too, more than in the store!
I also got the PRECIOUS rectangle appetizer plates. They come in a few different patterns so I got a few of each. We use these a bunch. These little plates are the best – so much fun!!! 🥳 These patterns, I mean.
Next I got the cute coffee mugs with the gold handles, they are all kinds of cuteness. 😍😍😍
I know you will want to know – YES, these dished can go in the dishwasher AND the microwave. Even with the gold trim! Raise your hallelujah hands!!!! 🙌🙌
I’ve had some gold flatware for years and I am thinking that will make a sweet match. I will likely mix in some basic cream colored serving pieces as I go.
For under $200 I have a completely new set of dishware, out with the old in with the new. It feels good. It feels like a step in the right direction. It feels fun and free and me. Maybe you could use a little spice in your kitchen? I highly recommend treating yourself to a dishware refresh. I mean – you use them every day, you might as well LOVE what you are looking at! Let me know what patterns you are eyeballing or if you’ve refreshed recently. I could easily be a plate hoarder LOL!

These are very pretty. I use cream dinnerware with the dotted bowls as accents. Your table looks beautiful. It is very therapeutic to rid yourself with items that keep negative feelings around. You’re right, it’s freeing to set up your new life with new things and stuff that makes your heart happy. Keep it up snd keep going. I love catching your live videos.

I have always been a dish hoarder and I admit it! I have recently, the last few years, had three sets of everyday dishes that I rotate through the seasons. You’ll never believe what I just added as my fourth set for everyday that are my current favorites. The clear glass dinner plates, small plates, bowl and the large really cute coffee cups (that I had to order) from Dollar Tree! You can see my different chargers or cute placemats right through them. They are quite heavy weight too. Admission…I have my wedding china, from 45 years ago, along my with three inherited sets and my full service for sixteen of Spode Christmas Tree with way too many additional pieces of that. When we got married at Christmas time some of our gifts were the Spode and we’ve been collecting it ever since. Okay…so much for my dish confessions! Benadine

I’ve traveled your road and wonderous opportunities can lie ahead! It often felt like my life was a game of chutes and ladders! Good for you buying new dishes, new memories in the making. Sometimes it’s the littlest of things that help in the healing process. I too have been admiring these dishes. I am a plate hoarder and love to mix designs, especially black and white!

Love them you definitely need a change ! I’m not divorced but I need a change in a lot of things . I quit my job as a caregiver to people to take care of my husband fighting cancer for 9 years and after 30 years of marriage I want to change everything and craft away gifts to all !!

So cute. I need to go shopping!
I just ordered new Pfaltzgraff coffee mugs for the Fall Bible Study I’m hosting.
New dishes for my family sounds nice, too.

Not only do these jump off the table with happiness and beauty, it signals another way you’ve removed a tie to an event and spouse that are no longer valid/current in your life. Good job moving on….

Are those glass chargers on your dining room table? Love, love, love!

I’m sorry to hear of your divorce. That is never easy. But now you can reinvent yourself! I’m building up my blue willow dishware collection. I love it, timeless and classic and it makes me feel like “Aint Bee”. It is such a thrill every time I find a plate or cup. Next thing I’m on the hunt for is a China hutch. Thank you for always sharing such positive and fun projects. I appreciate you!

Are there any serving pieces? Platters, vegetable bowls, ?

My daughter and I have a “dish” fetish and she currently bought those same dishes at WalMart. My dishes are Hadley Pottery (check them out) and I have had them for years and love them. However I have seasonal dishes I use, but mostly stick with my Hadley. They are made in Louisville, Kentucky, a very old company. I urge you to check out the company and their dishes. Again, I love yours and my daughters as well.

I fell in love with these dishes too. I mixed them with my leopard dishes and my black and cream striped ones and added gold silverware. Love, love, love the look.

I too divorced after 15 years of marriage. Had 3 little kids to raise. That was 50 years ago. When the kids were small I bought clear glass that had an embossed pattern on them. They were $9.95 for each box of 4 sets. They must have been tempered glass because they just never broke. I finally got tire of them and started collecting Lenox Butterfly Meadow. I was afraid I’d get tired of them, but I sure haven’t.
Good luck with your journey. There’s always ups and downs. But in the long run it’s better than being with the wrong mate.
