Making our home comfortable for every one in my family is a major goal of mine. I strongly believe everyone should have a space that invites them, makes them feel connected and is totally their own. A safe haven at the end of the day. The kids seem to get their own space with ease. Infusing their personality into a room is easy, plus they just string themselves all through our house. Their belongings and their mark are all over the place. That’s a nice way of saying they don’t pick up so great. As the mama, my job is to decorate the whole house. Flitting from room to room. Branding every space with my taste and preferences. It is kind of what women do. There is one person in the mix who gets left out the most. Maybe it happens at your house too. My husband.
I hardly met an antler, horn or animal mount I didn’t like, but let’s be real. It can be hard to work wild game into your decorating palate. You will find wildlife infused all over our home. It started for me as a way to incorporate my guys’ special treasures into our world and I ended up loving it too. It’s important to me that my husband loves our home, desires to be there and relaxes when he walks in the door. This little corner of our living room is where my husband works when he is not traveling. My goal is to surround him with love through decorating to his taste, interest and liking. By surrounding him with memories and God’s word, the task becomes easy. My husband loves this deer. (Well, really he loves another one that is bigger and better, but it was mounted looking the other way and there is only so much compromise I can handle in decorating 😉 ) To me glamming up this deer with a fab frame and a homemade trophy tag is a great way to incorporate your man’s hunting treasures into the landscape of your home. So if you are holding back, banishing a trophy mount to the garage, pull that baby out and let it shine. It will make your man shine too.
This project cost me a whopping $5.10. I bought the frame for $5 at an estate sale and painted it gold. The pewter tray set me back 10¢ at the same sale. I traced this amazing verse with trace paper and then went over it with a Sharpie. Viola! Hunting rustic turns into French Country in a snap.
I’m not sure if my hubs looks at this verse every day, but I hope he does. I hope it reminds him to trust our Lord. There is no height he won’t take us to when we lean on him for direction, grace and strength. I hope he knows that decorating is about more than decorating to me, it is a way I show him my love. Look around your home today and see if there are opportunities for you to show someone your love through decorating.
The sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. Habakkuk 3:19
