If you are wondering how to stop your pets from scratching up your door I have the best solution for you! Y’all. The struggle of man vs. pet is real at our house and I am working through solutions to the problems they present on a weekly basis. I’ve told you guys about how to stop cats from peeing in your plants, I shared the best tools to help manage pet fur in your home and now I’m gonna help you save your doors and furniture from unruly pets! WOOHOO!
We literally JUST had the whole outside of our house painted and within days the dogs scratched the new paint off the backdoor. It was tragic. I had to figure out something to stop the huge investment from going down the drain! I searched around online and found something to try and am thrilled to say it works amazingly!!! Here is one of the guilty culprits with her handy work…
I bought Panther Armor DoorScratch Protector for the win! It was super easy to install and you can use it in a few different spots to help stop your pets from scratching doors and furniture. I got the three pack and used two pieces on this door and the third on another exterior door we have. Here’s the how to for installing your door guard.
First I sanded and repainted the back door. Luckily, our painter left us touch-up paint! Who knew I’d have to bust into it the first week after he was gone?
Next, I made sure the door was clean by wiping it down with Windex. You want a clean surface so the door protector sticks well.
The Door Protector is basically sheets of clear vinyl that act as a barrier between your door and pet claws and paws. You stick it where you need a layer of protection. It is super easy to cut with scissors and sticks on like a champ.
I cut pieces to fit the door, even awkward spots were easy to fix by making a paper template and cutting the vinyl to fit. I was able to put the protective sheet on all the parts of the door the dogs scratched.
The scratch protector comes with a scraper that you use to smooth out the protective coating as you smooth it on the door. Start at one end or in the middle and smooth as you pull the backing off. It was a ten-minute fix that has made all the difference.
You can barely see the door scratch protector (see the pictures below!) and it has stood up to three dogs scratching on it daily. It was an inexpensive and easy fix. The cool part about the door scratch protector is you can put it on the inside of doors, walls, or furniture. Wherever you are having trouble with pets scratching and ruining your home.
