Make your own adorable DIY Sharpie Art Tea Towel with this super simple tutorial.
One of the things I try to share with you is that it doesn’t have to cost a lot to have a beautiful home. This DIY sharpie art tea towel is the perfect example of that.
You can pick up a pack of 4 flour sack towels for around $6, making this sweet tea towel under $2! The best part is, you can draw anything you want on it.
If you don’t feel comfortable drawing free hand, you can also use a stencil, or print out an image to trace. Though, I would love to encourage you to have fun with this little art project and really make it your own.
Worst case scenario, you are only out $2.00 if you are not happy with it. You could even fold it over and drawer on the opposite side.
There are no mistakes with art, my friends! 🙂 Here is what you need to make your own pretty tea towel.

How to make a sharpie art tea towel
The first thing you need to do is open up the tea towel and place it on a flat surface so you can create your art. Be sure to have something down on the table so the ink doesn’t bleed through your table. Flour sack towels are very thin.
Decide on the design you want to add. If you want to try free hand, practice on a scrap piece of paper first until you feel comfortable with the design. You can never go wrong with pretty flowers. Use my design as a guide if you want.If you are really uncomfortable with free hand, you can definitely print out an image and trace around it, or use a stencil. The main thing is to have fun with it and just enjoy it.
Place a piece of painter’s tape at the end of the towel, or wherever you want to create your art. This will act as a guide, so you don’t go over the edge.
Continue to draw on the tea towel until you are happy with the results. You can use multiple colors if you want. Your design can be as detailed or simple as you want it to be. Wouldn’t this be fun for the kids to create too?
Let them use their imagination to really make a pretty towel that they can give to mom or grandma. And, at a cost of under $2 per towel, you can’t go wrong. I’m of the opinion that you can never have too many tea towels!

I really like this idea…quick question…is it best to wash the towels first? and are they washable later? The permanent colors are safe through the wash?
Vicki says
I wondered the same thing. Do these need to be heat set?
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I did not, they will fade a little bit over time but the marker is permanent!
Samantha says
I was wondering what Joan asked. If the sharpie marker will stay or will it fade over time
