If you’re here, then you probably know what the Fishers of Men bracelet is, but in case you don’t, let me catch you up! The Fishers of Men bracelets stem from Matthew 4:19 that says “I will make you fishers of men” and is a reference to the first disciples who followed Jesus, and therefore became Fishers of Men. The idea of fishing for men may seem odd, but this message was tailored for Andrew and Peter, who were expert fisherman. So in one sentence, Jesus was summarizing what he would need from them, in a way that they could easily understand. I always talk about meeting people “where they are” and that’s exactly what Jesus was displaying here!
With that being said, people wear it today to symbolize that they are not only followers of Christ, but also to display that they share the same mission as Peter and Andrew did, and that all Christians do– to spread the word of Jesus.
I hadn’t thought about the bracelet all that much, until I met my now fiancè, Ladd. He wears this bracelet every single day as a daily reminder of what he is called to do. You can see it on his wrist in the bottom of this picture here!
And so when this past Christmas came around, I thought it would be the PERFECT gift for my sons! After taking one quick look online though, I got very discouraged! I can save you some time, and tell you these bracelets get really pricey, and I mean REALLY pricey! For a simple Stainless Steel variant from James Avery, it’s going to run you $215 and for the gold one, just the small price of $1,615! And girlfriend, if you have that money to spend, more power to you! I’ll even link those bracelets right HERE so you can grab it if that’s your jam! But if you’re like me and don’t particularly want to drop that much on bracelets, especially bracelets for 2 young boys who are likely to break them, I have got an answer for you!
let’s dupe this fishers of men bracelet
Start by grabbing Eagle Claw’s, Barrel Swivel with Safety Snap pack! You can find it right here– it’s less than $2 at Walmart!! You can find a picture of what it looks like below!
Just like you would a safety pin, pop open each piece and simply link them together.
You can use as many links as you want here, depending on the size you need it to be! I made the 2 bracelets for my boys and actually a necklace for myself!
And the good news here– you can change the length if you ever need to! As my sons grow and their wrists get bigger, I can add links as needed– easy peasy and so cheap! No expensive new James Avery bracelet for us!
And I love the mixed metals personally! James Avery’s mixed metal bracelet sells for $365 and we made BOTH of these bracelets AND a necklace for UNDER $2– and in less than 5 minutes!! I 1000% believe there is a time and place to splurge, but this is not that time! Make your own and save that money for the things you can’t DIY!

I really like your idea. I would like to try it and give them as gifts for a religious retreat. However, I’m worried about them turn the skin green because they are Brass plated. Have you had any problems with skin turning green? Thank you for your response.
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I’m sure that can happen if you wear them long enough, but we haven’t had a problem.

I love this and would like for my SS class at church to make these. We have been learning about the disciples, and I’m encouraging them to memorize their names. I have 6 boys and 3 girls in the class. Would a “Fishers of Men” bracelet be appropriate for the girls too or should I have been do a faith bracelet?
Thank you!

Could you put a light coat of clear drying modpodge to help with the green skin issue?
Kathy Johnson says
You can put clear fingernail polish or spray with clear enamel paint.

You can purchase stainless steel barrels on Amazon. Then you wii not have to worry about them tarnishing. My grandson asked me last week if I would make him a necklace and a bracelet. I’ve just ordered my barrels. These will make great gifts. Thank you for such a wonderful idea.
Andrea says
What size barrel did you use?
Kim at Salvaged Living says
I don’t know exactly… I just picked what looked good!? Sorry!!!!
