Hunt & Host Home Tour: Master Bedroom

master bedroom sitting areaI have been putting this room off. It is my current decorating project. I just can’t get our master bedroom to look the way I want it to. Probably because I don’t really know what I want it to look like.

That’s a problem when decorating 🙂

Therefore, I have decided to show you one part of the master bedroom that I do love and save a big exciting room reveal for whenever I decide to get my decorating act together.

I will tell you this room was huge when we bought the house. The bathroom was tiny though…and very outdated. When we remodeled the house this room had to change to function for us. It had a closet built into a weird place in the wall and tons of dead space. It was just akward.

I decided to build out a new closet area and add a dressing area with a coffee bar. It is seriously delightful. The new room layout might not be for everyone, but it suits us just fine. Since we are the ones living here, I figure that’s all I have to worry about.master bedroom sitting area

You can see in the before pictures above(taken before we owned the home)  how the room was big and open. We built out a free standing closet and basically  split the room in two. Now our bed sits across from the fireplace. Behind the framed closet walls you see above is the entry to our closet and this little area I’m highlighting…

This little corner of heaven is a quiet place for me to sit when I need to be alone for a moment. I go back and forth between here and the kitchen sitting area to do my morning prayers and bible study.

The view from the bathroom used to look like this.

The space just feels so grown up and personal. My husband and I both enjoy having this dressing area and breathing room.

We have the ability to make coffee or have cold drinks in a moments notice.

I love the original hardware we were able to reuse.

I promise I will put my thinking cap on and get to rearranging the bedroom part…I’ll let you know what I come up with!

By the way…the precious burlap and crocheted flower pillows are for sale here.

Do you have a special spot like this in your house? I would love to hear about it…

Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. Mark 6:31

Your little corner of heaven is adorable. I just read your feature on Southern Hospitality and hopped right over to see what my neighbor had going on. I’m a Texas blogger too and I try and hook up with all my Texas gals. I love your home and I’ve only seen bits and pieces. The street view reminds me of the town I grew up in and that drew me in right away. I’ve connected through email and I hope you will visit me and connect with me at mjonesstyle.com have a beautiful day.

I love your home because it looks so personal and warm. I can see you have done a TON of work…..I think we fall more in love with our homes, when we’ve put our own blood, sweat and tears into them! I love the painted brick behind the tub area and I love the coffee bar idea in your bedroom…..genius! God bless

I absolutely LOVE that idea, Kim- a sitting space. Once we know where we’ll be for a good while (staying in Nashville but finally looking to buy), I plan on adding this sort of thing depending on the space. Your home is so warm and beautiful!

I just need to say it: having a coffee bar in the bedroom is beyond brilliant! My husband would be very keen on this idea as well, so I’ll be pitching it to him tonight when he gets home. 🙂

Thank you so much for joining us at the Thank Goodness It’s Thursday party – see you tomorrow, Kim!

Nice house. It doesn´t seem like a commercial house, but a real, warm and a lovely home. I´d like to know how you can find time to do all things you do. May God bless you and your family. Warm hugs from Brazil.

yes parquet, mainly original but we had to patch and add on in a few spots when we renovated. I love them – I know they aren’t for everyone, but we really like them!!! hope you are well!
