For my mom’s birthday we decided on a Mother/Daughter girl trip. Rarely are the two of us alone together anymore. Usually it’s all the kids running crazy or she is babysitting while I am somewhere completely different.
We set our sites on two nights in Brenham, Texas. It was a close destination with tons of things we love to do. You might enjoy a get away there yourself!
We started the trip with a tour of the prominent historic homes in Brenham. I scheduled a tour for just the two of us through the Heritage Society of Washington County.
Our first stop was a three story Victorian home built in 1898.
It was my favorite.
Still furnished with original furniture, I was inspired at every turn.
The beautiful burled wood, clawed feet and petticoat mirror.
They just don’t make things like they used to.
All the way up to the most incredible attic you will ever step foot in, this house was a fun treat. Our personal tour guide was obviously in love with the rich history and intimate workings of all the old homes we visited. She was a wealth of knowledge.
The second house was built in 1843 and was a settling ground for a family of inspired pioneers. So much local history flows from the families that graced this home.
The house had recently been decorated for the holidays and you will certainly see it’s simplicity played out at my house this season.
The biggest house was saved for last. The Giddings Stone Mansion built in 1870 is a magnificent sight to see. It has been restored beautifully.
From the unique front doors to the insightful inclusion of bathrooms, it is obvious no expense was spared in building this home in days of old.
The period décor reminded me that details matter.
Time and focus spent on the intricate workings make a difference. This fast paced, mass produced world we live in has lost some of it’s edge.
It was the tiny moments that caught my breath.
Weary from having our mind filled and our imaginations triggered we went to check into our hotel. More like a bed and breakfast…maybe a boutique hotel. I am having a hard time naming it.
Whatever you call it, we loved it. The husband and wife team behind the Ant St. Inn were delightful. The breakfast was fresh and scrumptious. I ordered the same thing two days in a row. The next day was spent rounding the square. There are a ton of fun shops with a variety of items.
Every store we went to blew us away. There wasn’t a bad one in the bunch.
Whether scooping up our Christmas ornament souvenir, making our craft wish list, dining on delectable dishes, being awestruck by people’s creativity,
gathering Christmas decorating inspiration,
laughing at funny (and oh so true) typography,
or taking a shopping break for a sweet treat,
we had an amazing, relaxing, good time to catch up, birthday celebration for my mom. And she totally deserved it! My mom does so much for me and my family. It was nice to carve out this special time, just for the two of us.
Brenham was an entertaining little town, maybe you could treat someone you love to a getaway soon!

So happy you enjoyed your trip to MY HOMETOWN! Brenham is a great place to live. There was a t-shirt many years ago that stated “Bluebonnets, Blue Bell, and the rest is history “. So true. Please come back again, especially in the Spring when the countryside is blooming with wildflowers. Again, thanks for sharing your trip with all of us.
