I’ve got a precious free ghost pattern waiting for you today! This cute Halloween decoration is the perfect budget-busting craft to add to your cozy Halloween decor. Make it cute, scary, vintage, colorful, or whatever your Halloween vibe is. Seriously, you will have a blast making these cardboard ghosts to add to your Halloween tablescape, mantel, door, or any vignette!
Here’s How to Bring Your Cardboard Ghost Decor to Life!
- Simply use the free pattern ghost pattern I have for you and get started! Print the pattern, I gave you three different ghosts to use PLUS I gave them to you in two different sizes. I think the small ghosts are perfect for a garland or to mix in with the large ghosts for a hanging band of ghosts. The large ghosts are perfect to hang over your dining room table or mix around in your Halloween vignettes.
- Cut the patterns out.
- Trace the ghosts onto cardboard.
- Cut out ghosts.
- Paint the ghosts with acrylic craft paint. I used a pure white color as a base and I did not go for full coverage. I like them looking a little old and worn.
- Accent paint the ghosts with black acrylic craft paint. Offload the black paint and dry brush the edges of your ghosts. Add movement and detail to your ghosts with a light stroke of black paint here and there.
- For the eyes use a round pouncer sponge brush on the large ghosts, or you can use the end of a brush dipped in black paint. That is what I did with the small ghosts! You can make your ghosts friendly, scary, or any emotion with the face, so experiment! You could add yellow or red eyes, spooky mouths, or blushing cheeks!
- With a thumb tack poke a hole in your ghost wherever you’d like to string it up, have fun with this and hang some upside down or poke two holes and let your ghost fly sideways!
- Use clear fishing line to thread through the hole and hang as desired.
These were seriously SO easy and fun to make– a great little craft to do with the whole family that won’t break the bank!! Put on one of your favorite feel-good Halloween movies (I personally love Hocus Pocus) and go for it!! With it being such a fun, silly holiday, this fits the bill just perfectly!! And bonus, you’ve got precious decor that you can use for years to come… and good memories to boot!
I hope you enjoy these free patterns and they allow you to freshen up your Halloween decor without spending a lot of (or any) money! The great thing about cardboard is the fact that you can throw these out when the season passes and have a whole new theme next year (or keep them and reuse for years to come)! Perfect for those of us who like to change things up or are short on storage space! WIN WIN for sure! Happy Halloween y’all!
