Five Minute Farmhouse Idea: Fence Picket Flower Vase
We all have different love languages and being thought of speaks to my heart the loudest. Just knowing I cross someone’s mind in a day makes me feel warm and fuzzy. When my friend text to say she had a huge pile of fence pickets from her grandparent’s old fence she was getting rid of and thought of me, my heart was full.
Not only did I cross my sweet friend’s mind, she topped it off with an AMAZING pile of picket potential! You may have seen the kitchen message board I made out of my stash already. Today I am sharing a five minute farmhouse project and I’m doing it alongside some farmhouse friends sharing their best farmhouse projects.
For an easy five minute makeover, I simply took one fence picket and turned it into a special piece to fill a small space with big impact.
It only takes these supplies, plus some fresh flowers or greenery. You will also need a picture hanger and a drill.
Start by scooping up some stainless steel clamps at your local hardware store. You’ll find them in the plumbing department in a variety of sizes. This is what I used:
Go ahead and attach a picture hanger on the back side of the fence picket.
Flip over and space out the bands to your liking, screw into place. You will want to use a drill to screw in between the slots on the metal band…it’s too hard to drill directly through the metal.
Attach a test tube. (I got mine from the dollar bins at Michael’s.)
Hang in an unloved spot and fill with greenery from your yard for a fresh bit of farmhouse love.
I acutally made this for my friend that gave me the pickets in the first place. I will always look at them and think of her…and I want her to know she is thought of. I also made these bible verse blocks for her kiddos out of the same pile!
What way can you show someone you are thinking of them today? Drop them a text or hand written note, bake cookies or make a fun farmhouse DIY gift (check out the ideas below)! Share love friends, you can spare five minutes to make someone’s day!

I absolutely adore this project!! There are boxes and boxes of unused test tubes in storage at school and using a few for a project like this is such a good idea. In fact, if I can find a few fence pickets before school is out, I’m making one of these for my principal and assistant principal. I know that they will love it
You come up with the best ideas!!
Kim at Hunt and Host says
Thanks Paula – that would be the best gift for them! I would love to get my hands on a bunch of old school stuff…oh the projects I would do! Lucky you!

This is just the best idea – I can’t believe how quick and easy it. I love the contrast against the dark paint! This would be a great gift for teachers. I’ve got some salvaged barn wood and I just might give it a try with that! Thanks for the inspiration!
