Farmhouse Storage, a toolbox makeover that is simple for storage solution for guys!
Maybe it’s the throws of summer that have me trying to organize anything I can to balance the complete lack of schedule we currently have. I’m not sure, but I am sure that with three little ones home all day stuff is everywhere! Do you have the same thing going on? I recently scooped up this old toolbox for $3 at a garage sale and decided to put it to use in the train wreck my boys call a bathroom. They need a cool way to store and organize their everyday stuff. I felt like this toolbox was the perfect blend of industrial and farmhouse to compliment the vintage vibe going on in this room. The makeover for this rusty old toolbox is insanely simple. I hope it encourages you to look beyond the organizing and storage aisles at your favorite store and be creative while saving money. Because honestly…this project was CHEAP at under $5 total. This is really just an idea extension of my kitchen organizing tray you can check out!I started with a good scrub down and then sealed all the rusty goodness in with a few coats of matte finish clear spray paint.Next I used some wooden knobs (I also got at a garage sale, whole bag for $1.25) and painted them a charcoal grey.
Using my go to glue (affiliate link) I secured them to the base of the toolbox so the metal doesn’t sit directly on the countertop. Metal plus bathroom counter top is a bad combo…it’s a sure way to get rust stains on your countertop and nobody likes that!
I placed glass jars in the toolbox to hold all the miscellaneous stuff a bathroom vanity requires. For this step I don’t even use mason jars…I go with pantry favorites. Spaghetti jars, pickle jars, whatever I have on hand gets recycled into storage or gorgeous decor around here!
Luckily there is plenty of counter space in the boy’s bathroom and this toolbox works perfectly as a holding tank for toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes and hand towels. You can see the rest of their bathroom here.
Now if I can just get them to actually use it…
Ok friends! Here is the exciting stuff…Check out the other Farmhouse Friends blogs below.

What a neat idea for using an old toolbox. I also like that you were able to use jars from your pantry to hold items instead of having to buy containers to use. Every time I visit your blog, I am inspired!
