I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just HAVE to get my hair out of my face a little! Whether it be because I’m out doing yard-work, inside painting, or even simply sitting on the couch and want it out of the way– I like to pull it back every now and then!
I personally have short hair, as you may or may not know. The length can vary a little from cut to cut, but overall short. With that being said, I can’t just pull it back in a ponytail, and quite honestly I’m not sure I would want to even if I could! No offense to the ponytail-lovers out there, you do you, I just don’t think it’d look good on me! Honestly this is all irrelevant because I CAN’T put it up anyway, but you get my drift!
If you’re like me, whether that be you can’t put it up or simply don’t want to– headbands can be your best friend when you still want to get it out of the way! Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT one of those girls to try and look cute when I’m doing housework, but I do like to look somewhat put together if I’m out and about!
All of this to say, I have a quick and easy DIY headband you can make in less than 5 minutes or so! It’s super cheap to make and an easy way to get my hair out of my face when I need to, whatever the reason may be!
what you’ll need
- bandana (or scrap materials)
- Sewing Machine (but you could hand sew this too!)
get started
- Tear or cut your bandand into strips, the bandana is not really long enough on it’s own to wear as a headband in this manner. I made my strips into a wedge shape so the middle of the headband would be slightly fatter than the tail ends. You can make this as wide or narrow as you want, mine is approxinmately 2.5 inches wide at the thickest part.
- Sew two lengths of bandana together.
- Take a strip of bandana (feel free to use an alternate color to change it up) and start to fold it in a circle pattern to create an abstract flower.
- Sew the center of the flower to the headband in a zig zag, jagged pattern for a fun, free flowing flower center. I make sure to place the flower off center of the headband so it sits on the side of my head. This sewing project is for anyone! No straight or professional sewing skills needed here.
- Trim the tails shorter if you want, or leave them hanging. This is such a sweet and simple little accessory you can make a ton with different materials for different seasons and styles. Let your creativity and imagination run wild.
…And that’s pretty much it!
Now I’ve got a pretty cute headband whenever I need one, and all it took me was 5 minutes and a couple dollars at most!
My kinda DIY for sure!
