If you’re anything like me, you may love the look of plants, but you don’t have that green thumb gift– I always say I have a black thumb! It definitely doesn’t stop me though, I love to have plants all throughout my home, in my backyard, and especially on my front porch patio! In my opinion, that is such an inviting thing to walk up to at someone’s home, and I want everyone who comes to my door to feel welcome!
Annnnnyyyway, the whole point is I love plants but I’m not quite sure if they love me! And especially when it comes to the front of my house, I just don’t go out that way all that often, so any plants out there often get forgotten about! But I have finally found a solution– an Rain Bird Electronic Garden Hose Watering Timer and a Rain Bird Patio Plant Watering Kit! I want to thank Rain Bird for sponsoring this patio project, all ideas and opinions are my own. You can read more about their products HERE.
I’m telling you, this easy fix is for you– If I can do it, anyone can! This is going to save you money, time, and allll the worry– plus it’s going to make your plants, and your home, look THAT much better! Look how sad my empty front porch is…

- When you open the Rain Bird Easy to Program Hose End Timer, there are simple, straightforward instructions on getting yours set up! You simply set the time and date at the time of setup, and then choose when and for how long you want your plants to be watered for! There is even a handy guide in the package to help you with suggested watering times.
- You’ll want to run your house to wherever your focus is! For mine, I have 2 hoses connected through a Y connector, one stays in the backyard, and one runs to the front of the house for my patio plants! I just tucked the hose up to the house as close as I could get it, and honestly, you barely notice it’s there!
- Simply connect the end of your hose to the Rain Bird Easy To Program Hose End Timer, it’s a cinch!
- Now it’s time for the fun! You’re going to want to break open your Rain Bird Patio Plant Watering Kit. This Kit has 25 feet of tubing and can water up to 10 different planters– it’s crazy! You will connect the end of your tubing to the Rain Bird Electronic Garden Hose Watering Timer and run the tube to your first plant! Similar to the hose, I tried to keep it as close to the house as I could– the kit comes with 10 tubing mounting clips, perfect for holding it in place! And yes, you can hammer it into mortar!
- Next, you will want to cut your tubing a little before it meets the first planter. You use one of the tees and branch off your tubing to the first plant and then head to the next one.
- Cut a length of tube to get from the tee into the plant, with enough room for it to fit into the stake, and down into your planter!
- Shove the stake down into your soil, then snap the tubing inside with the bug cap!
- Once the tube is in place add the appropriate emitter. There are two different sizes in the package, chose based on pot size for proper water emission. The red one emits 2 Gallons per hour and the black emits 1 Gallon per hour.
- Continue running and splitting your tubing to reach up to 10 pots!
I was able to set up this whole system in less than an hour, and now my plants are taken care of– and I don’t have to think about it!
The tubing is barely visible, and so worth having vibrant, beautiful plants to welcome guests to my home!
