Today I’m sharing not one, but two super simple projects. The first is a creative picture idea using an old picture frame. The second is an adorable DIY coffee mug tutorial.
Not only am I showing you a creative picture frame makeover, but I’m also showing you a sweet stenciled coffee mug craft. Both of these projects are made using A Maker’s Studio products. They would be amazing for the gift giving season that is coming up!
Picture Idea and DIY Mug Tutorial
The stencil that I am using from A Maker’s Studio is called Fresh Start and you can use it to make so many different projects. The glass overlay used in the picture frame is very special to me because of my recent divorce. It signifies moving on.
Supplies for picture frame makeover
- Old Picture Frame – Check out thrift stores!
- Squeegee Tool
- Ceramic Paint – I used black, Hot & Spicy and Dark Chocolate Latte
- Stencil – A Fresh Start
instructions for creative picture idea
step 1.
Remove the glass from the old picture frame. Be sure to clean the glass with rubbing alcohol to remove any fingerprints or dust.
step 2.
Place the stencil in the center of the glass. Use the black paint and the squeegee to transfer the stencil onto the glass. Remove the stencil carefully.
step 3.
Let the paint dry. Or save time with a Wagner heat gun, it’s small and handheld. You can grip it in a variety of ways so it serves you well for a bunch of different project types. I personally love that you can use it hands-free!

step 4.
Place the updated glass back into the old picture frame and place a favorite photo. I added a special photo with my children. It sits on a side table in my living room and makes me smile every time I look at it. 🙂
I always like to give you options, so you can also place an old dictionary page in the frame for a completely different look.
