I feel like decor prices just keep getting higher and higher… along with everything else for that matter. Unfortunately, my desire for a cozy, warm, beautiful home hasn’t quite changed… so I’m having to get creative. It’s 100% possible to have a beautiful home on a budget, “even in this economy!” I’m going to tell you how to make a cheap farmhouse centerpiece that you’ll use for years to come, and in every season!
what you need
- hammer (the hammer fist is my all-time-favorite)!
- nails
- slat of wood (I used 2 old, small fence posts because that’s what I had)- the length of this centerpiece can be custom-tailored to you, so just find the right length and width for you! I would recommend something with at least 4-6 inches of width though, that way things can actually fit on there!
how to make your cheap farmhouse centerpiece
This might be one of the easiest DIYs on my blog. Literally hammer nails sporadically throughout your piece of wood. This is simply so vines or whatever you decide to lay in there will stay in place and have a unique, whimsical design. I did leave a couple open spaces with no nails so I could lay decor in there without those being in the way. I didn’t do this on mine, but a little bonus idea I had after the fact- hammer nails through the “underneath” of the board first, that way you could stick candlesticks down on those and hold them in place!
And no joke, that is seriously it!! Now, how you use it will likely depend on the season, but I originally made mine in Fall. I gathered some nature from my backyard and intertwined it between the nails until it felt full and beautiful. Gathering fresh cut branches with leaves let’s the branches twirl easily around the nails and then the leaves dry beautifully. You could always take the leaves off for a stripped down look that really shows off the branches!
Then, I laid little light-up pumpkins in the open spaces I left for decor and added tealight candles. I think for Christmas it would be so precious to add some garland or something! This same idea can be replicated for any season and Holiday, but always with the same little base.
You don’t have to spend hundreds to create decor you love… this cheap farmhouse centerpiece is the PERFECT testament to that!
And with the tealights and light-up pumpkins, it’s gorgeous at night….
