Hospitality. What does that look like to you? I think of hosting someone for dinner or giving them a place to stay when traveling. Maybe having coffee at my house. I'm stuck on a very literally picture of the word host. Christ has put me on a path to stretch the meaning and scope of this word in my world. Hospitality... Merriam Webster defines hospitality as the generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests. Seems like a simple definition, yet it is so broad at the same time. Where We Hunt: Thrift Shops & Resale Stores
It is as much fun to hunt out new thrift stores and resale shops as it is to hunt the stores themselves. Almost every town has one or two, even itty bitty towns. They are like downsized department stores. They are not all about one thing - you have clothes, furniture, housewares, books, bedding...on and on. That means the possibilities are endless on what you may wander across. Here are my top 5 tips on how to thrift shop to the max. 1. Frequency - If you find a local store that you like, go ... continue reading...
Keys To ME
When I shared about junkin in Small Town USA I mentioned local hardware stores. Often the hardware store is a combo job...hardware/feedstore/auto parts, etc. Our deer lease is close to Junction, Texas which is a precious little blink of a town. They have a combo store I'm quite found of. I found this nifty little key chain there. Well, it wasn't really a key chain, but some sort of horse tackle gear or something. That’s a Wrap
We have a fireplace in our bedroom. Ooh lala. Really it is ugh lala. It is one of those spots in my house that has kind of collected all the leftover unloved items. We have never lit a fire in the fireplace, we might need to work on that. The bedroom is under decorating construction currently. That just means I am moving stuff around to make it a happy space instead of a sad last kid picked for the team kind of place. I have a great pair of candlesticks. Symmetry is really awesome ... continue reading...
Where We Hunt – Attics
Welcome to week three of our 10 part series - Were We Hunt. Stick with us as we walk you through some unexpected spots to gather goodies for your home. One of the coolest stories I know involves treasure from my friend Janet's attic. Twenty years ago Janet's parents house was burglarized. One thing not stolen was a box of silver. Her father promptly hide the silver in the attic, I guess just in case they came back and really started to look around. As you can imagine the silver sat ... continue reading...
10 Winter Yard Tips
In case you followed my lead on hunting in your yard and were less than thrilled by the way your area looked, we have put together a list of winter tasks for you. Curling up with a good book by the fire right now certainly sounds more inviting than spending any time or thought on the outside of your home. However, if you want a yard that looks good year round now is a pretty critical time to lay some ground work. Most of this to-do list is not super fun, but reaps great rewards later. Isn't that ... continue reading...
