I am all about having a home you love without having to break the bank for it! I strongly believe that with a little time and a little love, you can take items that you may otherwise never use, and turn them into something you adore! This may mean something from the dollar store, or even something from your latest garage sale haul. I often find things that I like the idea of, or the bones of, but not necessarily the colors or overall style– and that is a smaller problem than you may realize! I’m about to tell you about a dollar store makeover you NEED to try! I want to thank Rust-Oleum for sponsoring this project, all ideas and opinions are my own.
Before I even knew what to do with it, I saw this duck at a thrift store and simply HAD to have it! I didn’t love the overall style but the duck itself was just so cute, and I felt like if I could give it a makeover it would fit the style in my home!
Isn’t he just SO cute!? It’s a replic of an actually duck called a Ruddy Duck in case you were wondering.
And same for these little gnomes! I was in the dollar store one day, looking for 4th of July craft supplies and ideas, and I happened to run across these!
I know gnomes are either your thing or not at all your thing, but I love them, and I think they are so sweet and CUTE. Even with that being said though, these gnomes, as they come, are NOT my style at all! Not that there is anything wrong with them, they just wouldn’t go with the decor currently in my home! And if that’s ever stopped you before, your world is about to change.
I have loved Rust-Oleum paints for a very long time now, and they continue to release amazing products, time after time. I trust the brand so much, and I use them every chance I get.
They do have a ton of options, so definitely feel free to run with your imagination, but I personally felt a good soft gold would really mix in with my current home decor, and just escalate these pieces! This shade is so on trend and you see it everywhere in home decor stores theses days, so why not DIY with it!?
It was pretty simple honestly, you just spray this paint alllll over your pieces, and watch them change right before your eyes! They cover really well, which makes my job even easier! It usually takes a couple of light coats to get the job done, but the Rust-Oleum Imagine line truly never disappoints. When spray painting, just remeber less is more. It’s better to do multiple light coats than to over spray and get a drippy mess. Shake your paint well in between coats and while spray painting for the best results.
…And just like that, I’ve got a bunch of new pieces to use for decor around my home without breaking the bank… or even working that hard for it!
These gnomes went from something I would never place in my home to a piece I’m proud to show off!
The color elevates these pieces to look rich in color and beautiful– like they cost way more than they actually did!
And at the end of the day, it isn’t about filling your home with expensive pieces, or even pieces that you can make “look expensive,” but more about filling your home with pieces you love– Curating your home to feel like YOURS!
And with a little Rust-Oleum Imagine Soft Gold Chrome Spray, I did that in minutes, and you can too. Make sure to check it out!!!
