It’s hard to say if this is a milk glass knock off or a ironstone knockoff tutorial. Either way I am excited to share my $3 centerpiece with you guys today.
Last week I shared most of my Christmas home tour and today you get to peek at the dining room, with a simple tip to make a gorgeous centerpiece on the cheap. Friends, NEVER underestimate the dollar store, especially if you are decorating on a budget. There are so many treasures waiting to be made over.
When I was hunting for Halloween décor I came across these goblets for $1 each. I knew immediately they would be perfect for a centerpiece arrangement. Great shape and height. Look for the bones, not the color of an object when you are out shopping.
All it took was a few coats of spray paint and these glasses where made like new. I used a matte finish white, but you could use gloss if you want more of a milk glass look. The matte lends itself to an ironstone look. That’s why I said I was confused on what to call these. When you are spray painting glass do multiple light coats or the paint will run.
The greenery came from the Christmas tree yard. Free discarded clippings. They berries were cut from my neighbor’s yard. They are sweet enough to share…out Yaupon hasn’t shown it’s colors yet.
The rustic board/tray is a tutorial you can catch here. This month of December I have been reading to my kids a little bit of the bible each night from the book of Matthew. As I read the beatitudes to my kids I thought about these lowly little dollar store goblets.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5: 3-10The beatitudes are all about seeing things differently, never underestimating God’s transforming power. Never underestimate the meek, the poor, the outcast, the downtrodden. Finding true joy in the midst of pain. All the things this world holds high and dear are not what God treasures. His way is not the way of the world and ours shouldn’t be either. Yes friends, the dollar store holds treasures. Treasures come in unexpected places, packages and people when you look through the eyes of God. So before I cast judgement, pity or underestimate another soul it’s imperative I remember who God holds dear, you can never tell by the outside alone. This year I feel called to see the unseen. (Later this week I will share a little gift you can give away if you feel the same.) The air just feels energized with loving on the unloved. The advent season is bursting with anticipation of Jesus’ birth and all that his existence holds. And my heart is bursting too.
When your heart gives way and absorbs the truths represented in the beatitudes you want to share the love. I feel like the before version of the dollar store cup, often overlooked and empty. I am so thankful God sees me as the made over version full and overflowing. Thank you to each one of you who come back every week and allow me to share my heart and home with you. You are truly God’s blessings to me.
If you are looking to step up your Christmas décor I hope this idea helps you accomplish something beautiful on a budget, and I pray it reminds you there is hope for us all. And THAT is what Christmas is about.
I always appreciate when you share so others can follow along too. Christmas blessings to you and yours.
